A friend of mine wants to get his first provisional so he can get bike lessons. It's been a long time since I had my first license so can't answer his query.
He wants to know when applying for your 1st bike provisional is the theory test part of the bike application now or is it still just for car provisional applications? I know they were trying to bring it in for 1st time bike license applications as well but not sure if it has come in yet. Anyone know?

You need to pass the Theory Test and an Eye Test in order to obtain a 1st Provisional Bike License.

I recently got my first provisional bike license and yes i had to do the theory test for it but when i arrived at the motor tax office with form and theory test cert i was asked for the eyesight report but i claimed ignorance and said i didnt think i needed one as i drove a car and didnt require glasses for that, so she that was fine. I then paid me few bob and 2 minutes later i had my license to ride.... sweeeeeet

as far as I know its the same test still but not sure when its changing, either way if it does change and the questions are as easy as they are now, then no one should have any problems

The new theory test comes into effect tomorrow (21st). Its a different test now for cars as it is for bikes. Its to early to say (no reports of course ;) ) but I reckon its gonna be considerably harder then the old one, which was a joke in all fairness.
Pain in the arse though because its a seperate test, in essence you have to do the theory test twice if you want to drive a car and a bike.

Seems reasonable, though, since they're very different vehicles. If only they were as quick about updating the physical test.
