    Hi all,

I have a little problem and Im hoping someone here can help. I sometimes take a class at our dojo when the numbers are too much for one sensei to take. Im studying for my Black Belt at the minute but the kids I take are Red - Yellow belts.

Now my problem is that I'd like to make the class interesting and am looking for some tips or advice. What way do you teach your class, what way is it broken down?

    Thanks in advance,
    Gordon

    hi there
not a teacher but I'll throw in a few ideas that we use in TKD training that are quite enjoyable
seperate into 2 teams and have point soring e.g teacher holds up a pad at various heights that the teams must kick with rising kick and point for each hit then vary with side kicks through a hoop at a target etc and finally roundhouse kicks knocking a ball of a height etc. good fun and works all kicking techniques- plus when there is a point scoring competition everyone gets involved
    second idea
have kid in the centre surrounded by 2 others, holding body pads, and he alternately kicks or punches the pads when one kid says eg. snap kick - he snap kicks and then turns around to face next attacker who will shout front punch or axe kick etc - good fun for everyone and a great workout when done at pace

There was an earlier thread in this forum titled "Tips for instructing young children MA." Although it was intended for a younger age group, many of the suggestions should be useful to you.

Fun fun and more fun. Talk to them on their level but don't condescend them. Be approachable to them, professionalism doesn't equal distance. The better your relationship with them, the more they trust you, the more you can get them to do and achieve.

Kids are great to teach! Encourage energy, noise and enjoyment and watch their skills grow!!!!:D
