Network connection

Hi, my flatmate recently signed up with digiweb satelite bb, very good speeds..anyway, i plugged the network cable from his pc into my laptop but cannot connect to internet..when i check my network connections, i am sending but not receiving any data...is there something i need to install to connect to digiwebs bb?...cheers..s

go into

Start -> Network connections -> Local Area Network -> General -> properties -> Internet protocal -> properties

see if you have it set to obtain ip automatically

yip, its set to find IP address automatically

try turning off Windows firewall/any other firewall.

check his network settings to see if he has a fixed ip and just copy his details.

turned off the firewall, no change! checked my mates settings, no fixed IP! The reason it gives for no connectivity is network address is missing? Thanks for yeer advice

I have Digiweb metro at home. I'm 99% sure that the guy that installed it told me that if I did what you did I would need to switch the Digiweb modem on and off. Don't ask me why, something to do with the modem remembering the connected MAC address I guess.

Give it a try and let us know how you get on.
