    Hey all,

I'm thinking of buying a new PC.

With Vista coming out soon, I'm wondering would I be better off waiting for the Vista release?

I presume Vista will be a few hundred quid to buy on it's own whereas it will come OEM if I wait a few months.

    Any thoughts??

I personally wouldn't bother with Vista for a year or so. Its bound to be full of bugs and security holes for a while.

If your buying a pc you will more than likely see some XP based pc's going cheap in the next few months.

The commercial release of Vista isn't due to January or sometime around that, maybe it will show in December.

Either way you will be waiting, supposdely there is some sort of coupon program going to happen whereby if you buy a "Vista Ready PC" with XP on it you will get a free upgrade to Vista or possibly a discount.

Best thing to do is wait till the end of October and see if someone like Dell takes up the coupon program so you can get your PC now & a possible free upgrade down the road.

If Vista is your main reason for getting anew PC, I would wait until at least 6 months after its release to get the early bugs fixed, also by then the dual core chips should have come down in price somewhat. So you'd get a new OS with a dual core chip :D PC

Dual core CPU's have already dropped considerably in price. They probably won't drop much more but instead the Athlons will be replaced by more powerful options just like the Pentiums have been already.

yes but while amd are replacing the current athlons with more dual core cpu's kentsfield will be released, quad core..

also i'd second what most have said, wait a good 6 months after vista's release until it actually gets working well, gets bugs worked out and security holes plugged
