Can anyone help me? I need to find out where I can book the cheapest flights possible to South Africa.

I have a max budget of approximately €800, but haven't the first clue with regard to which agents/sites offer the best deals.

    All suggestions welcome,

    Thanks!

Usually the likes of ebookers or travelocity will find a good flight price if you book accomadation aswell.
    In my experience.
The downside is that you have to pay for the accomadation up front.
You'll probably be flying from Heathrow or Gatwick?

You can ring ebookers free from the UK on 0800 0823000 and explain what it is you want and ask for the cheapest fare with or without accomadation.

And heres the kicker-Sometimes the fare rules state the cheapest fare that the likes of ebookers can offer you must have a saturday night stay so you can still get that price if you book say 3 nights in the cheapest hole of a hotel ever and not stay there and you still end up getting the flights including the cost of that accomadation for a lot cheaper than the flights ordinarally would be.
Ie you can dump the dirt cheap accomadation and your fare will be fine but you obviously will have paid for accomadation that you wont be using if you get me.

That said if you are travelling from Ireland theres this...
Slatterys South Africa operates Ireland’s only direct flights from Dublin to Cape Town and will recommence the route on October 27, with prices from €494 (taxes and surcharges not included).

For full details, phone Slatterys on 066 7186 200, log on to www.slatterys.com or email info@slatterys.com
Thats from the examiner travel section.

Nationwide Airlines also fly from Gatwick to SA, and may be cheaper than the majors. Check out www.nationwide.co.za

Emirates fly from Gatwick to Johannesburg, you could give them a try if thats any use. Virgin Atlantic fly from Heathrow to Cape Town also.

When you going WWM? My brother was looking for a flight there recently and Slatterys in Kerry definitely offer the cheapest deals in Ireland, if you are flexible enough about when you are going, deals are even better. There are deals in November for as little as €344 per person!!:D

    Hi WWM

If you're doing the tourist thing and Cape Town is your destination, then your best bet would be Slatterys as mentioned by Miss Fluff. They have some great deals at the moment.

If however, like the wife and I, you are flying anywhere other than CT then your best bet would be either Air France, Iberia or BA. Slatterys fly during the day where all other companies do the overnight thing. You would arrive too late in CT to connect to your onward destination.

Slatterys are the only crowd that fly directly to SA from Ireland. All others connect via a central hub in Europe.

I recently purchased 2 tickets to fly in July 2007 for €1,400 with Air France.

    Cheers
    Mike

I flew with Slatterys two years ago direct (via Tenerife for fueling) to Cape town and we arrived on schedule at 8am on a sunday morning. It think the return flights cost €599 each (which included a night in the Holiday Inn in Cape Town the night before the return flight)

Unless they have changed their time table 8am is a perfect time to arrive, but try to get plenty of sleep on the plane .. or end up like me getting sun burned to bits having a snooze in the middle of the day
