Just finished watching this, Exodus had some great moments, although this is very much a middle-of-the-trilogy episode. The best scene was Adama's "we band of brothers" speech before they jumped.

Methinks that main characters will die.

    Best bit
" Don't make me cry on my own hanger deck" and Apollo's reaction to that.
Good to see Lucy Lawless getting a bit of development. And, of course, what will Boomer do now?

Yeah, i also really liked the Admiral's speech at the end there. Certainly would convince me to follow him into battle :)

Starbuck Jr. is freaking me out with her non-talking. I reckon Starbuck will kidnapp the child, and bringher with her to the Fleet (after killing Leoben for the 6th time).

As well, i can see Boomer kidnapping Hera and klling Maya next week at some stage. Adama and ex-Prez are also a marked man / woman.

Can't wait for Tigh to get back to the Fleet. You just know the first thing he's gonna do is put on a Motherfrackin' Bad Ass Eye Patch :D

    One thing that's bugging me.

The child, Hera, is special or unique because shes a Human / Cylon hybrid.

Surely then that puts Casey's parentage into question? i.e. she is not a hybrid - she's either Cylon or Human but not both. Plus supporting this theory, we've seen in previous episodes that lies & deceit are part of Leoben's nature.

we know the child isent a hybrid it may very well be her child but there is no cylon dna in her otherwise 3 wouldnt be so obsessed with hera

Hera was concieved in a loving relationship, whereas Casey was (supposedly) concieved in a test tube. I'm sure that makes a massive difference in the eyes of the cylons, religious nuts that they are......Wouldn't be surprised if Casey was actually a new cylon model, though. Representing childishness or something like that :p

This really is the best thing on TV by a country mile.

Amazing episode. Really interesting, great suspense, brilliant acting as always (props to Teigh, as usual this season) - even Ellen, continuing on from last week, has finally proven her worth.

Thought I recognised the actress playing the oracle, anyone know who that was? Loved that scene anyway.. hope the character returns. No. 3's behaviour was all a bit convenient plot-wise but I liked it all the same. Liked how she had the ability to spot Sharon at a glance.

Which No. 3 is this anyway? The one that got her head smashed in in Download?

Just one episode isn't enough :(

Didn't like this show when it started first, warmed a bit more to it in season 2 but damn really enjoyed the first 3 episodes of season 3. Between this and Lost I don't think Winter will be so bad now :)

It's Amanda Plumer, you might remember her as Honey Bunny in Pulp Fiction.

But she's always great.. she did a good Outer Limits episode as well a few years back.

That's the one! Cheers. Just couldn't quite focus the image of Honey Bunny in my head for some reason.

Anyway, yea, she's always great. Would make a nice addition to the regular guest star line-up.

Good episode but there are alot of plot holes and errors in this series so far.
The Cylon security seems to be non existant.
Anders ,Tyrol and others seem to be able to roam freely despite them obviously being high level members of the insurgency.
The Cylons know that Adama is returning (Ellen's info) so I'd imagine they would up security a few notches.
The Launch keys have been stolen and Biers will notify the rest of the Cylons, they will surely realise that the ships will be launched or attempted to.
    What happened Tyrols beard ?
Cali initially running away from the Cylon execution squad was completely different to that shown in the flashback.
2 Battlestars with a skeleton crew and about 15 vipers against 5 Base Stars ?
Not a hope in hell under any circumstances.
We earlier saw 2 fully functioning Battlestars against 3 Base Stars and that was a close one.
I think the writers seem to be rushing through the New Caprica storyline trying to get it resolved as soon as possible ,concluding it in 4 episodes when there is scope for 6-8 episodes easily.
Its still the best show on tv but the writing seems to be getting a bit far fetched.

All good points and the execution scene really was a cheat. It didn't bother me at the time but looking back it was a bit too much and I've definitely had enough of the old "one hour earler" stuff. As for what happens resolving this story line - dont be too sure they'll rush it. IMHO the writers/producers are well able to pull a few rabbits out of the bag.

Ellen only came in on the end of that conversation, so she just heard that it was an important meeting, she didn't know about contact with the Galactica.

But you're right on pretty much everything else.. The beard thing was really odd... exactly when was did he take time out to shave when his wife was about to be executed?

And doesn't the place were they met up with Sharon look like a much nicer and fertile location than the ****hole where the settlement is?

Placed her from the outer limits episode really loved that episode(season 2 Episode 1), did not link her with plup fiction. Better watch that again my memory is not slipping it's gone.
How do the cylons not know Adama is comming? The chief shouted it to the surviors of the shooting while one of the skin jobs was still alive.

I actually took time out to listen to R.D. Moore's podcast commentary for this episode. I think it's safe to say that despite the few apparent gaffs, they really do put a lot of thought into this show. And Moore doesn't have much problem saying something is sh*t if it is.

About the beard -- RDM goes into this at length. Due to the need for reshoots later on - at a time when Tyrols beard would have been shaved off anyway, it was decided that rather than having him use a fake beard then, they'd just have him clean shaven now. There was some discussion as to explaining how and why but ultimately it's not too important. The 'real' reason is down to production schedules and a desire not to use fake beards. And in the shows continuity you can just assume he had a shave. People shave all the time, and with Galactica on it's way he may have decided to smarten up (RDM's idea).
The Cylons know that Adama is returning (Ellen's info) so I'd imagine they would up security a few notches.

Like monkeyfudge said, we don't really know what exactly she told them apart from there being a meeting (which is all she was asked for).
Cali initially running away from the Cylon execution squad was completely different to that shown in the flashback.
Yea, I noticed that alright. It's not explained away in the podcast, but he does admit that that whole sequence was handled by two different directors and was an editing nightmare. Lack of foresight leading to a little mistake by the looks of it.
2 Battlestars with a skeleton crew and about 15 vipers against 5 Base Stars ?
When did we hear they had five base stars?

The podcast did sort of address this point anyway. They (the writers) want to give the impression that the Cylons have other things going on aside from this New Caprica experiment, hence not having a million+ troops and all their ships in or around the planet, and there's also a line to the effect that resources are running low.

Also, we don't know how things are going to pan out, so give em some credit yet :)

It sure does,I was asking myself that same question.

It was definitely mentioned in the first episode.
And Moore doesn't have much problem saying something is sh*t if it is.
Thats true ,he is very frank, almost too frank as he has criticised episodes that I thought were some of the best.

Fair enough i must listen to the podcast yet,but 1 line of dialogue in the show would have covered this ,perhaps from number six to Baltar .
I look forward to the next few episodes to see how things pan out.

Good episide alright. A few holes (like the beard, the wife was all "boll*x he has time for a big shave with his wife missing and a baby to look after") but not the end of the world.

I was definitely left wanting more.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,526 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatInABox

The beard thing can sort of be explained away, kinda. A lot of people, thrust into dangerous/shocking situations, will revert to old habits, i.e. some people suck their thumbs when scared/sad, in order to gain some small measure of control over their current situation.

Tyrol could have, when confronted about the news of his wife's immenient death, or even sometime before, decided to shave in order to get his thinking straight.

Of course, all of this is moot for me anyway, as I just sit back and watch the show without picking holes in it. Oddly enough, it's the only show that I can do that with. Perhaps I know in the back of my mind that the producers had a good reason for whatever happens?

Great episode, I actually liked the one hour earlier retcon. I liked the whole way we had one opinion on events as seen through the prisoners eyes and then we get to see what has actually happening when we get the full information.

The obvious problem with Casey is her age. Boomer was pregnant before starbuck had her ovary removed, yet Casey is definitely older than Hera. Though the cylons could obviously have some sort of accelerated growth in their baby pods/test tubes. But I don't think Casey is really Starbuck's and Leoben's child, at least I hope not I don't want to see Starbuck as a devoted mammy anytime soon.

it does seem a bit fast though to take them all away from the new setting on New Caprica and resume the fleeing through space again. But i am pretty sure we wont be disappointed no matter what the writer decide to do with the story. They have not failed us yet!

It's obvious that without the Pegasus in support Galactica will be toasted in no time - it's an original Battlestar from the first Cylon war that was being decommisioned on the day of the attack. Pegasus is a top of the line warship and after the civilian fleet is safe at the rendevous point, Apollo will take the Pegasus back to New Caprica just in time to save the Galactica. I'm wondering will the next episode see the end of the Pegasus. Remember in the original series the Pegasus was last seen going toe to toe with the Basestar ships so that Galactica could escape. Seems like too much of a coincidence that a similar scenario is unfolding in the current series, also if the two Battlestars were to survive the encounter then it would remove the fear factor for the fleet on the run (Two Battlestars > Five Basestars).

Hmm, picky picky picky some of you, I never even noticed the Chief's beard going missing. Now that it has been pointed out I don't really care. It's irrelevant to the story and not as if someone came back from the dead. The discontinuity in Cali's escape was noticeable, but explained away by two different directors of these scenes. A bit of an irritant but not too bad.

This was a good set up episode for next weeks battle. I wonder though is there any truth in number 3's dream, showing her holding Hera and what looked like a wasteland left behind on the planet. Are they going to nuke the city when they see Galactica, and possibly Pegasus, arrive? I hope the Pegasus doesn't get destroyed if indeed it does turn up.

I wonder too if Starbuck's child was produced with donor sperm from one of the human males that the Cylon's had in captivity. I can't see how she's a Human/Cylon hybrid. Could also be a Cylon herself, perhaps she's one of the other models we have yet to see, or a completely new model? There are still five unknown models, my money's on Ellen Tigh being one too.

So many questions, saw the preview at the end of that episode too and I certainly can't wait for the next one.

Overall a great scene setting episode for part two. So glad this evolved into a two-parter - can you imagine how rushed the exodus from New Caprica would have felt otherwise in one episode as originally touted? I remember thanking the gods similarly when they split Resurrection Ship last season.

The secondary characters have really being holding their own in this new season so far for me. Tyrol, Tigh, Ellen, Cally, Jammer and D'anna Biers have had really pivotal and involving parts. Even Blanders gets a meatier role. (C-Bucks rule btw!). Starbuck has her own issues to deal with but I'm sure RDM will devote a whole season to teasing those out. ;)

And who can play a haggard, chamalla-chewing Oracle better than Amanda Plummer? Nice cameo.

Have hope. Part two is coming.

Just wanted to quickly say, magnificient acting on the part of Colonel Tighs' actor, whatever his name is.

Right when he found out Ellen betrayed him, he managed to portray a look of rage, hatred and finally utter horror, shame and sorrow, all in the space of a few seconds and all with 1 eye!

    Was an excellent scene.

    Gods, I love this show!

Best line so far this season, if you ask me.

just finished watching it there, i was a bit disapointed
when they seemed to chicken out of the group execution
but the build up for what is comming next has me really excited. Also, there was a 'next week on BSG' at the end of the one i watched, nothing really big given away, but i think we will see alot of fireworks. Giant space battles FTW.

Yes, there was a bit at the end of mine, which I didn't realise until too late, I actually saw a bit. Just so the rest of you can imagine what I've suffered through all week here's a
"Two Battlestar's just jumped in" or something similar was one line I heard
(I had my eyes closed in horror, as I desperately searched for the volume)

As to 1 battlestar against 5, They haven't used the nukes that they have yet, and that would probably be the fastest way to even the odds.
