Visa for New Zealand

    Hi all, Myself and some friends are heading away to Australia for a year in 2 weeks time and we were thinking of heading to New Zealand for a year or so after that. Here is my dilemma;
    I was talking to some girls in the pub last night who done the whole Oz - New Zealand trip and they said that we should get our visa for New Zealand here in Ireland before we go, as it is a bit of a hassle getting it when in Australia and it costs something crazy like $1000?
    Can anyone confirm if this is true, or anyone have any experience on getting visa's while in Australia... If it is going to cost so much, we will apply for it here before we go and pray we get it in time.... Any info anyone has would be a great help... Thanks :)

    If you want to visit NZ as a tourist and you hold an Irish passport then you do not need a visa.

    Otherwise more info here.....

    The above is what you're looking for.
    Ireland Working Holiday Scheme

    There are 2800 places available annually under this scheme to young citizens of the Republic of Ireland for a stay of 12 months.

    The scheme runs from 1 July each year.

    Might be awkward enough applying from Ireland for so long in advance...

    I wonder can you even apply for a visa that begins more than a year in the future?

    thanks for the reply's, i have read all the info there. its just after talking to the girls the other night, they have done the travelling to Australia and new zealand and got a visa for both before they left Ireland. From their experiences while they were away they found that people who applied for the visa for New Zealand while in Oz had a much more difficult time getting it, and also had to pay near $1000 in order to get it... i was wondering if anyone else who had travelled came across this?????? I dont want to have to pay something crazy like that when i am away, when i can pay €100 or so and get one before i go!!!!!!!!!!
