Help me choose a car!!

Im just back from Oz and going crazy at home without a car. Even though Im up to my ears in debt Ive taken a car loan of 4000.
Number one on my list of what car I want is Opel Tigra, but theres not many out there in my price range (I can go up another bit). Next is Hyundai Coupe. Im also thinking of Renault megane coupe or an old favourite of mine had been mitsubishi colt (not so mad on it anymore).

I need to get one soon, have the cash ready. Id like to get some opinions on the cars I mentioned? Any other options for a similar car thats not too expensive. Dont want to get a car older than '97.

Any advice much appreciated.

Some non car related advice:

If you're in debt alraedy, do you really think it is a good idea to get more debt to buy a car that will shed value fairly quickly?

If I were you I'd sort the debt situation first and in the meantime buy something - anything with four wheels that's in reasonable nick and no more expensive than 1 k max.

But maybe I've just watched Eddy Hobbs once too often ...

Thanks eddy! Im not too worried about the debt at the mo as Im getting my SSIA in late December so Ill be able to pay everything back then.

Hi,

If your looking for a nice coupe reliable get a mitsubishi Mirage Asti-v

you'll pick one up for that money easy and being jap it'll have all the extra elec windows power steering and will hold its value very well also

www.carzone.ie is in my opinion one of the best sites to look on search for mitsubishi mirage or mitsubishi asti or mitsubishi colt coupe and you'll see them all

I had one never let me down was lovely and comfortable 1.3 cheeep on petrol and tax

I'd consider, from looking at forecourts around me and from knowing a few people in the trade that Jap imports for all their spec, shed value quicker than any equivalent Irish spec model, due to parts problems and what can go wrong etc....

Go for an astra or some such in a 1.6 if you can find one. I wanted a Tigra too, but the cost of buying and owning one was beyond me and I spent €5k for a top spec 00 Corsa. That was even the cheapest I could find at the time (7 months ago).

An Astra would have been cheaper but insurance is crippling. Also your NCB may have expired while you were in Oz so check that out before you buy anything

Jap imports do not shed value quicker. 1997 Opel corsa Starts @ 2k on carzone probably cost 12 thousand pounds when first produced call that holding its value?

Guarantee ya the 97 Mitsubishi will still be running when your 00 corsa is being scraped because the head's blown
