I went to see Louis Stewart last Saturday in Airfield House in Dundrum.
He had a quartet with Jim Hart on vibes, Michael Coady on bass and Sean Carpio on drums. They did Wes Montgomery (very famous Guitarist died in late 60s) stuff.
    It was effin wonderful.
It was in a room of the old house with about 80 people jammed in and I was sitting 3 metres away from LS. The sounds was great and they played some wonderful funky foot tapping jazz (e.g. check out West Coast Blues if you find any Wes recordings) with lovely solo swapping and interchange between all 4 of them.

They plan to repeat it with Jim Hart on Piano.
No I am not related to LS and do not get a commission.

He's a great guitarist alright, though i've only seen him once.
Pity he doesn't come to galway more :(
Tho i will get to see him on Sunday which is nice. The gig you went to sounds like it was great.
Westcoast blues is on the incredible guitar of Wes Montgomery by the way but his best playing (IMO) is on either of his two live albums Smokin at the half note or full house, i urge you to check em out.

First, let me just say I'm a big fan of louis.
Second that gig from a guitarists point of view was dreadful.
Louis was locked. Big time. He could barley speak. It's such a shame to be honest. He played some nice parts obviously(he is a legend) he has an awesome jazz vocab but there were no 'solos' as such mostly just bits of things and some nice lines here and there. How he even kept it together is beyond me. The best part of the gig from his perspective was that the audience was mostly an older generation that didn't seem to mind his being drunk and performing.
Loius' guitar tone was pretty awful...even though he was going through an AER amp. On the plus side of things he managed a beautiful solo outro to one of the songs but on the whole the was too many missed and fluffed notes to even consider it as a real gig rather than just someone who's long passed his best.
The Vibe player was extrordinary though and made the whole thing worthwhile. A mental virtuso, who always plays piano...I think he'll be playing paino at the next gig.

I actually agree that his solos were nothing much and he was locked which was scary and the sound was not great but despite all that I still had a great night. He said he could not speak because he was having his dentures replaced. He had no teeth. I went there with my wife and son and we enjoyed it. They actually seemed to enjoy it more than me. He was, by his standards, pretty mundane but by general standards was still pretty good. The quartet played great and I love the material and the setting was great so I still thought it was a good night.
