Best sub 10K car for advertising

    Hi,
I want to get a car to advertise poker.ie on. The advertisement will just be the logo (just white) I think. I'll want it on each side, probably at a diagonal and then on the back and maybe bonnet too.

I think a hatchback would be best for this.

Shape will be a big factor in this but I'd also want a reliable car too and of course, the cheaper the better.

I think I'd want the car black and I'd want to tint the windows too. There's a few cars I've seen that I think would suit the purpose:
Ford Focus, Seat Leon, Skoda Fabia, VW Polo, Honda Civic, Peugeot 206/207 and a Toyota Corolla.

I'd much prefer the car to have 4 doors so if this can fit well into the shape, it would be a plus.

The problem is there seems to be a lot of various shapes for each of the above like the Focus for example, some have a real nice shape and other don't and I'm not sure if it's alloys or a lowered body that is making me see things differently.

Any opinions on the above cars as to what is the best in terms of price, shape and overall reliability?

I think this Leon and this and this but not this Focus' look nice, but don't know their model numbers and trying to find the cheapest price I can, in a black colour, in such a shape will probably be quite difficult. It's just when finding images of the ones I like, it's hard to tell if that shape is old enough to be affordable or what model it is etc.

I think 1.4 is the most I'd want due to insurance. 10K is the absolute most I'd want to spend on this, 5-6K would be ideal.

    Any feedback would be appreciated:)

You should have a cut-and-shut for this. The front end (your end) should be a Merc, while the rear ( the punter's) is a '97 Hyundai Accent.
The message being that if anyone foolish enough to get into online gambling will end up with considerably less than those who run it.

This is poker my friend, you play against other people, not the house. Thanks for the help on the car suggestions anyway though:rolleyes:

Ok, the leons you have looked at are Cupra Rs, ie GTI version 1.8T petrol with between 180 to 225BHP, hence the body kit. With the focus the 3 door does look better.
As an owner of a Leon SE I do like the standard shape, but to be fair I think the best car as a promotional car would be a Beetle, Mini, or a maybe a big jeep like a D-Max. Why? Very noticable car to the average punter, your average joe blogs assciates them with cool, chic, quirky. Down side, not cheap or 5 door.
Alternatives : Alfa 156 Sportswagon (shows your a bit of a gambler),
Astra Hatch (look well in black with nice wheels)
Seat Ibiza (new Shape) Again looks well in black, sporty looking.

Thanks for the alternative suggestions but I think practicallity will have to come into it aswell as this will be my main car so I'll need a 5 seater.

I would of course like to be able to consider a Mini (a mini over a beetle anyway) or of course a jeep but my budget just doesn't allow it.

I think from all the cars above, the one I like the most is the yellow Leon in the first post, or the black 5 door Focus. Does anyone know what model the focus is? I assume it has a body kit too?

I looked up the Cupra Leons and they are quite expensive and would of course be expensive to run too.

I think the Focus is the main contender now, it's just a case of finding a cheap one with the right colour, shape and price!

To be honest, your best bet is to get something like a commercial and as its a business you can claim the VAT back on it.

You have to bare in mind though that a shabby looking vehicle will look bad on the business too.

Something like a small 4x4 might do.

    Or a small van

That shape focus came out in 2005. You won't get one for 10k.

I wouldn't go with black as a colour, if I was you.

Black shows up the tiniest bit of dirt really well and looks manky and shabby the day after you washed it.

You'll spend more time washing it than driving.

I think the 4X4's are a bit too much engine wise and the vans are only 2 seaters which I wouldn't want either:(

What about the new suzuki swift?

They look quite similar to the mini, and this one is being advertised at 11.5k for a 2005 with 7,000 miles: http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=508271

For a little more, you might be interested in a smart roadster? It is a two door, but it certainly attracts attention.

On another note, what about paying a few people to put your logo on their cars? I am sure there are quite a few people out there who would let you put your logo on their car for a reasonably modest fee.

    This doesn't look too bad:)

Are black cars really that bad to keep clean? I've a black car at the mo, but it's at the stage where it can't really get any dirtier, doesn't look tooo bad:o

A big point to getting a black car is that I'll want the windows tinted to best show the logo, I don't think a 2 tone(car and tints) background would look too well with a logo on it.

are you registered company or vat registered , could you not just get a commericial ex vat .

if not a commerical with the vat would be a good option. the old shaped focus commercial's are going for a song at the moment and would look ace in black with your logo diagonally accross the blanked out window.

also isnt vrt on commerical greatly reduced or something.

there a few of these for £4000 sterling. 2000 Land Rover Free Lander Commerical

The Nissan S-Cargo is a great little thing for promotions. Would have to import it though, I'd say.

    Silly price though!

Black isn't thaaaaat bad. But it is bad enough in wet weather.

It looks class when clean though.

In my experience, black (and other very dark cars) show up that first dirt really badly.
They do look absolutely class when they're polished and shiny ...but after that first drive in the rain you wish you hadn't bothered. The contrast between specks of dirt and shiny, pristine surface is biggest on black.

They kinda look worse when they're half dirty than when they're really filthy.

As you want to advertise and not drive around in a totally filthy car, you'll be washing it a lot.

    How about a Toyota Bb?

It's square shape is ideal for signwriting, and it will grab peoples attention and stay in their minds more than a Focus.

    imperialCUBYEL926.jpg

This one is advertised at €12,950 on Carzone but I reckon it could be argued down to your budget.

If you can stretch to the motor tax and insurance costs in THIS YOKE you can even have people playing poker while you're driving ...that should be a good adverdtisement.:D

    horrendous fuel consunption

That Toyota Bb colm_mcm found seems just the thing.

A 5-6 year old humdrum hatchback - even that nice black Focus - isn't gonna do anything for the brand you're trying to promote. In fact, if I saw an older h/back plastered in stickers I'd perceive the business as being very amateur.

If the promotional aspect is important you'll have to think outside the box a bit. If you want to be contventional - the 05 Suzuki. They're a funky little car and it's new & shiny...

Otherwise colm's Jap import Toyota or similar.

Regardless of what you decide on go for white and the second thing to think of is really excellent signage/graphics. Go for something that will really attract the eye.

Haha, that Toyota BB looks the biz, only thing is the colour and the price. 10K was my absolute max. Plus I don't have the money yet and by the time I do, that will probably be gone :(

Where would I go about getting another one like that? Signage on that would look brill too. Do they come that shape as standard are has that been slightly pimped?

The price asked is open to negotiation, and they're quite a common car in Japan,
    That one is pretty standard,
This is how they look (pretty) "Stock"

    er... no

They're dirt cheap leaving Japan, by the time they get here, they go up in price a lot!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Ahw :( any idea how I would go about getting one in? I think a black on with black tints would look very nice.

Besides the look, is it a reliable car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

bombproof mechanically, it's actually based on the Yaris, so parts aren't really a prolem, it uses the same engine as the Yaris T Sport. Toyota dealers will order in any body panels/lamps etc.

    they also did a pick-up:
    bb_open.jpg

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

If I can't get the BB, I think the Focus is still the best choice. I don't think many people will be looking at the year of the car the advertising is on to be honest and if they do, I doubt it would make that much of a difference. It may be my only choice you see.

I don't think white is the colour to go for either, If it's a white paint job, the logo will need to be dark, so I couldn't tint the windows. I think black is the best option for this:confused:

So does anyone know how one would go about importing car like the BB into Ireland anf what I could expect to pay for it overall?

Also, how much would it cost to spray the yellow one above, black?

Daihatsu Midget, if you can get one, they stand out big time

/edit: and you could get five of them for €10k, if the carzone ad as mentioned by Wossack below, is a standard ish price

That Bb reminded me of the Nissan Cube (just to open your options a touch)
    cube_06.jpg

Possibly a bit 'cuter' then the bb is the only thing ;)

    /edit: few others:
