Arni 'The Ice Viking' Isaksson v Jean 'The White Bear' Silva

The Ice Viking faces his biggest test to date taking on Pride Vetern and Chute Boxe fighter BJJ Black Belt Jean Silva

This fight will take place December 9th on the UKs biggest show Cage Rage in London. A win against someone who took Gomi the distance in Pride will open a lot of doors for Arni :D

    War Viking!!

Excellent work Arni and John. Good luck now :D

Best of luck arni and john,no reason why you's can't pull of the victory,Ollie Ellis was very unfortunate to only get a draw against Jean Silva and i feel arni is a much more rounded fighter than ollie.

Awesome. Any word on the event he was in in Edinburgh (if I remember correctly?), or has it even been on yet?

John, a bit of a suggestion for ya! I for one would consider makin the trip to see Arni fight, even on my pitiful student budget! Id imagine that plenty of other people would be lookin to do the same. Maybe you could organise some sort of bus/train/ferry over with accomodation and tickets included for one payment. Would be a boost to Arni to have a contingent shouting him on!

Not giving away a gameplan.. But what will it take for Arni to win this? Jean's ground game is really solid and his striking is decent, as is his wrestling.

I think a good wrestling coach for Arni will make it a long night for Jean.. Otherwise, it would be over early.

    Crokester,

Why don,t you check out flights, accom., tickets et al, and come up with a price that lets you go for free ......., talk to SBG , assume they would have no problems.

As is Arni's;) with the exception that arni's striking is excellent

I saw Arni roll up in galway. He looked good. But Jean is surely alot better on the ground. I'm sure JK is doing what needs to be done to ensure Arni is very capable if it does go there. Hopefully Arni can keep it standing and bang it out. I wish him all the luck in the world. This is a big step for him and the SBG team.

Silva's ground game is overrated. He's good but he's far from a top BJJ Black belt. His striking is hard to deal with because it's unorthodox. If Arni doesn't throw himself into a submission (Like Samy Schiavo did in their second fight) he should be able to GnP Silva if it hits the ground.

Silva likes to try to trade standing, he did it at the start of the second fight with Samy but once Samy hit him he clinched for his life, maybe Arni can take advantage of that.

bad news. arni will not be able to fight in Dec.

during the week he was wrestling and his partner fell on his leg which was straight and badly hyper-extended it. treated it with ice, compression and anti-inflammatories. took him to see a sports therapist after the swelling went down. his diagnosis was that although it wasn't one of his cruciate ligaments it looks like he may have torn his collateral ligament. this type of injury will have him off the mats for about 6-weeks followed by 6-weeks rehab. he's going to be out of competition until Feb next year.

brought him to a sports doctor for confirmation of this and got an x-ray to confirm there was no bone damage. he's heading back to Iceland to get an MRI to access the extent of the ligament damage.

he's young and very determined so is staying positive and is going to use this 'down time' to develop 'sick upper body strength' :)

That’s a shame as I hate to see any taken out of something they have worked hard for with an injury!

I'm sure he will do whatever work he can until it heels, then take the right time to get back on form and come back stronger.
