I'm asking for a raise after lunch. Gulp!

I don't think you can do anything more uncomfortable that this, other than resigning of course.

Ugh.

Anyone have any raise request tales?

If you believe you are in a solid position there and that you have options should you leave then say you will have to consider your position if they do not meet your request.

I asked for a raise in work and was asked what i was looking for, i said between 3K and 5K, that i would like 5K but would be happy with 3K. The manager said that she probably wouldn't be able to get me more than 1K. As i was leaving her office she asked would it effect me staying with the company if i didn't get the raise. I said it wouldn't but i would be open the offers from other companys, the manager asked had i been in contact with any, I said a recruitment agency had rang me about a position with a competitor and left it at that.
Two hours later i was called into the managers office to say i'd been given the 5K, needless to say i was delighted.

I never heard anything from the recruitment agency after the initial call, but they done the work for me
