    Hi all

My sky box has eventually died after 6 years of loyal service. My question is what is the process of getting sky to replace it and how painful and costly is it?

    Thanks in Advance

They'll probably replace it for free, if you sign up for another minimum contract period of a year.

    1) Ring and say you want to cancel. Only when they ask why: as your box has died. Mention the 6 years.

    2) If that doesn't get a free box, then ask about a reduced price replacement.

    3) If that doen't work buy one yourslf.

With 6 years option (1) is likely to work, though you aren't entitled to a free box etc. They will add a minimum cancellation period.

At more than 4 years old they are not worth repairing.

Actually it would be rare for them to set more than a mimimum of 3 month before cancelling is allowed.

Threatened to cancel and they are now sending me out a new box. I don't really understand how they can set a minimum of 3 months before cancellation is allowed, I'd just stop paying them.

    Cheers for the replies.

Will my existing card work on my new box or will I have to get it paired by Sky or can I do that myself?

You agreed a contract. If you stopped paying they would put a debt collection agency on to you for the remainder.

If you have any premium channels, those won't work

When you get the box you put card in and go to Services | Setup and whatever menu shows card number and box details. If you have premium channels, (i.e. other than any of the mix packs) you ring and they need the card number and box model & serial number.

RTE etc and all the mix packs will work.

A FTV card doesn't care either.

I've heard it's quicker to get through if you choose the option for a New customer!

I was quoted 37 minutes when I rang tech support. Hung up and rang again and waited on the line to speak to someone and they put me straight through.

    Here's what to do :

    1. Ring Sky and cancel your subsription, tell them your leaving the country in the next 2 - 3 weeks.
    2. Get your folks/wife to sign up for a new subscription. If your home has a numbered address put a letter after the number, this way Sky think it's an apartment block so you don't have the cancelation/sign up wait.
    3. You now get 3 months half price on all packages from €10.75 a month & you'll get free standard installation a free Sky box and €15 credit if you join online.

    :D

    a) It's Fraud.
(My suggestion is not fraudulent. If you really mean it about cancelling, it isn't even a white lie)
    b) You will have to have phone line connected for a year.
