Its simple yet very interesting, you have to read some articles for getting complete knowledge and I can suggest you read these unmatched articles all about trademarks here http://www.smallbusinessbible.org/navigation/tm.html

    Hope this helps alot!

You would be highly recommended to get professional advice if you are in some sort of urgent situation, e.g. if you think you might be infringing a trade mark, or passing off, or if you think someone may be treading on your own rights. You can find contact details for most of the firms here:
http://www.aptma.ie/firms.htm. Also, if you ask some specific questions here it might make it easier to give targetted advice... the area of "trademarks" can cover a few different problems & topics.

Incidentally, the links in the previous post are in a US context. The US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) requires that you use the trademark before it can be registered, but this is not true in Europe generally or in Ireland in particular.

Registering a trademark for the EU:
    http://oami.europa.eu/en/mark/default.htm

An overview of the situation in Ireland & some of the main topics:
    http://www.frkelly.ie/html/trade_marks.html

    Irish Patents Office website:
    http://www.patentsoffice.ie/en/trademark.aspx

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have a specific question.
