Boot disk + hard drive - 2 questions

    Hi there.
I have 2 questions regarding boot disks and hard drives.
    Firstly,
I have a spare hard drive (NTFS) 10GB which i hook up on my
    secondary IDE channel.
When i boot into dos from a windows 98 boot disk, this secondary
hard drive is not recognised. Any ideas why this would be?

Secondly, im looking to make this second hard drive bootable.
I want to transfer the windows 98 boot disk files from the floppy
onto this harddrive so that later on, i can hook it up on the primary
IDE channel and boot from it; I have tried using the copy function
in dos to transfer the files but it wont boot, it keeps giving me a
    dll error.Again, any ideas?

I would really appreciate any help, as i'm inexperienced with book disks.
    Many thanks!!!
    Regards,
    Shamrock

Dos can't read NTFS without a driver.

Windows 98 doesn't support NTFS, which was introduced with Windows NT and never in the 9x core. You will need to reformat it to a file system that Windows 98 understands, like FAT32.

    Hi Shamrock2004

The best thing you could do is search for a tutorial on Fdisk. This is a program included on the 98 boot disk that will format the NTFS partition as Fat 32 which can be read by Windows 98. Be warned that it will destroy all data on that partition.
