    Hi guys,

I'm looking to get one of these monitors: http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=ie&l=en&cs=iedhs1&sku=59234.

Now, I've done my research online and I'm certain this is the display I want. The thing is, I'm aware that there's different revisions of this monitor (the latest being "A03"). What I'm concerned about is getting the latest version from Dell themselves. I phoned their Sales Dept. to ask if they could confirm that the model I would receive would be the LATEST revision. Bizarrely enough, the guy on the other end just kept trying to sell me the monitor, like a gobsh*te.

Anyway, suffice to say he didn't have a clue what I was talking about. So, I was wondering if anyone's bought this monitor and if they have, what revision of it they got...?

Also, if anyone's any opinions good or bad, let 'em fly! :)

    Cheers,
    Seán

If you haven't seen it Behardware have a good review of the Dell 2407 it seems to be a very nice display.

One thing though is the 1920x1200 resolution having used displays with that resolution before I would not call it an altogether pleasant experience. As XP was never designed with in mind those heady heights so you have to mess with the DPI settings to get it workable (which it turns screws with the icons & elements of the UI) or prepare to do a lot of eye straining :)

Vista will be better in this area thankfully or at least they say so haven't tried out one of the RC's yet on a machine with a 1080p display.

    Cheers guys.

PogMoThoin: That's interesting about what OCUK said about the panel changing. Not much I can do about it unfortunately, but I'll keep in mind. Interestingly enough, it's still cheaper to buy directly from Dell, when you take delivery and VAT into account.

8T8: Saw that review, thanks. I actually used the 2407 over the past two weeks in some contract work I was doing, so I'm lucky enough to get some experience with it. Now if Dell could just tell me what revision I'd be getting, they'd already have my purchase!

Also, afaik the 2407 doesn't do 1080p, just 1080i. Not much concern to me since by the time I get very serious about HD Ready displays, I'll be buying a "proper-for-the-TV-room-and-not-for-my-self-indulgent-PC-needs" display ;)

    Very interested in this thread.
Any thoughts on this as a comparison: http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=325763&view=detailed
Going to be upgrading my GFX soon also, what would you reccomend to make full use of this monitor. Spec in sig.
Not a hardcore gamer, play the likes of san andreas but I'm more interested in watching DVDs etc.
Sorry for the partial hijack and thanks.

I'd be interested in people's comparisons too, so no hijacking considered ;)

I'm pretty sure this monitor does do 1080p, since it has 1200 horizontal lines. Got a link to the place that sais it doesnt?

I have had the monitor for over a year now and I am very pleased with it for anything other than gaming. The extreme resolution (native) you need to run games at to avoid manky downscaling of the picture doesnt leave alot of leeway for anything other than top of the line gfx cards. Expensive business.

However, in that respect your mileage will vary, and overall I would recommend it.

I bought the A02 rev 2407 & returned it after a couple weeks due to the banding issues and light bleeding at the corners. The banding is supposed to be fixed in A03 rev and the light bleeding varies from monitor to monitor.

I went from a CRT to the 2407 and was disappointed with the contrast ratio, video playback wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be (I like black to be black). However, I played many games I wouldn't normally play as they looked so fúcking good on the 2407 (must have played the Dark Messiah M&M demo 2 or 3 times a day :D ). My next monitor is going to be WS LCD when they finally develop decent contrast ratios.

Why would it not.. Sure the native res of the screen is 1920x1200. Considering 1080p is 1920x1080, there is no reason why it would not do 1080p.
