fitz €55 double chance late stage of the tourney 20 players left 9 get paid.

villain is UTG and reasonably tight likes his all-ins has open pushed 44 and 33 and didnt get called slow played a set and 2 pair.

i have 14K average stack 12k villain 6.5k blinds are just ending the 400/800 level. im delt Ah 9h in BB villain limps UTG wih 3 other limpers.

i check in BB (was very wary of tight villain limping UTG) opinions?

    flop Jh 7h 3c (pot 4000)

i check (and before i get destroyed i know i should have bet the flop) and villain open pushes all-in for 5.7k folded round to me. (pot 9.7k)

    call or fold?

    The check preflop is fine.

As for calling the all-in, if you think your Ace is an out then it's a call for me. And seeing as this guy likes to slow-play big hands, it should be an out. The only thing I'd be worried about is him holding AJ, but a) would he limp pf with this and, b) would he go all-in on the flop? (Actually both of these conditions are possible if he's so tight, and he sounds like the type of player to go all-in to protect his hands against draws).

A bit more info on how he plays in EP pre-flop would be a big help. What have you seen him do?

He may have limped utg with a big hand, have you seen him do this before?

Wouldn't be surprised if he had an overpair with no hearts and was happy to take the 4k now. Or he could be working off his tight image and earlier on where he pushed and wasn't called.

Hopefully your ace is an out. Hmmm, I remember from last week that the payout is fairly top heavy, so I'd be more inclined to gamble.

Not getting the odds I'd want here, if you lose you're down to 10bb, so not out of it completely, if you win you've double the average chips.

    Gamble,gamble, call.

btw, any news of the freeroll?

getting nearly 7/4 odds and with the aces more than likely being outs as well id call this. if he has kings or queens its only 54-46 so your in decent shape

this was the 1st time iv seen him limp in EP pre flop in the last 2 hours he has either folded or pushed UTG has shown every time he pushed and had low pocket pairs therefore his limp kind of confused me

Since I got so much abuse yesterday I said I'd give my two pence worth here,

It's an instant call for me, good value in the pot.

right so i must hav thought for a good 5 mins my thoughts were blinds were gettin steep and i was playin well enough to fold this and still finish in the money. however i wanted to take ths tourney down. to be honest i really didnt know what he had but i put him on a pair of some discription.

so anyway i made a crying call villain turned over Ac 3s
 the way the table had been playing he would get called by any J and he open pushed (comments)

no help from the board and i lose 30% of my stack

i know i should have bet the flop but the way this played out does anyone get away from it?

yep - I would....you are nowhere near desperate territory in the tournie (but you are now!) and I think this is a bad move at this stage

I think u did the right thing here no doubt about it! u need to gamble at this stage of the tourney as theres no point coming anywhere outside the top two. Id be makin that call all day long!

I'm not surprised you were confused. I think when a player of this description limps pf UTG, he generally has a big pair hoping for a raise so he can then get the money in. In this case he made a muppet limp with A-rag, but as usual his crappy play was rewarded. It's hard to know when a player like this is going to deviate from his normal play and go loco.

Having another think about the hand, it's very tight if only your flush draw is live, and as you're really not sure what he's at, letting this go wouldn't be terrible. But after what he showed down, make a mental note to get the money in against this guy in future games at the earliest opportunity.
