Dell 9400 - quick question

    Hey,
I was just wondering whats the max resolution I should be able to get from my 9400. At the moment its at its max of 1440x900 and the monitor is on ATI Mobility Radeon x1400, but the reason I ask is because I remember reading either here or on another forum of someone with the same laptop (don't know about their display adapters or graphics cards though), but getting a higher resolution...any ideas? Does it sound like its installed right?
    Cheers for any help.

Well, what size is your screen? It's possible the other person you're talking about had a bigger screen.

Is it not a standard 17 inch screen or do the screens come different sizes of 17 inches?

I don't know - I meant maybe perhaps he had a 15.4 screen and someone else has 17" or similar, I don't know what sort of options are available for the 9400.

Also, what sort of screen it was would dictate resolution as well.

Its the standard 17" for the 9400. Tried to have a poke around and get more details for it except its just labelled "Default Monitor" with little or nothing in its properties.

if you have the Dell true life screen - you will be able to go to 1900x1200 , otherwise max res is 1440x900 with standard screen

    btw its 17' screen too

You need the WUXGA panel to get 1920 by 1200 res, pricey but nice

This was taken from the dell website:

17" Wide Screen WXGA (1440x900) TFT Display [Included in Price]

    17" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife™ [add € 145.20 or €6/month1]

edit: apparently WUXGA stands for - Wide Ultra eXtended Graphics Array (1920 by 1200 pixels; 1.6:1 aspect ratio)
