    Hi guys and gals.

I live in Ranelagh and I would like to know if there are any dojos that are near me. I am very interested in Tae Kwon Do, but I will also take anything you can offer. Any help would be much appreciated, thanx.

there's a tkd place on Exchequer (sp?) St, just off George St which you could almost walk to from Ranelagh.

i'm sure someone will post better directions :)

We practice chinese wrestling, comprising practical tai chi chuan and shuai jiao in Ranelagh multi denominational school on Wednesdays 8-10pm. The class, taught by Paul Mitchell, features traditional tai chi chuan applications training with a lot of stand-up free wrestling with and without jackets/gi. The class format tends to be warm-up, 2 person light wrestling / push hands drills, 2/3 person self defence techniques based on those drills, varous types of free wrestling, and tai chi forms to warm down. I haven't done any TKD, but I'd guess that the principal difference is that the range we use is typically more close quarters, and the training is nearly all partner/group based. PM me or just drop out if you would like to give it a go, first class is free.

List of RITA ITF TKW schools in Dublin at

    http://www.rita-itf.org/dublin.htm

The one in Templeogue College looks to be the nearest one to you.

TKD is great, broke my first green boards last week with flying side kick over 5 training pads great fun. Really though, at TKD for over a year and love it, patterns and a bit of language, some good sparring and techniques and with a lot of work could be black belt in 2 more years even though its getting harder grading by grading!! A great way to get into Martial arts.

TKD is indeed great fun. I'm training in it for about 2 and a half years at this stage and currently have a red tag grade. All going well i should have my black belt by christmas of 2007.

i don't know about classes in Dublin as i'm only an old culchie living down the country, but what I do know is that TKD is a great MA, that you'll get great enjoyment from. Like any MA you will only get out of it what you put in, be it for a hobbie, fitness, to be a top fighter or whatever.

    hi Memphis
    how often do you grade?
we have been flying through the gradings till now (green belt) every 3 months or so,but I would imagine it will slow for blue tag/belt - in fairness we don't grade unless you regularly attend twice a week and show improvement in patterns technique and spar adequately as well
It is great for fitness alright but i reckon you need to be running and lifting weights along with it for maximum results. I notice when I spar ,that fitness is the most important factor and often against bigger fighters even though I could take alot of shots in round 1 later on when they tire I can pick them off and turn the bout.
Had a BJJ class the other niight and I am stiff - all new muscle groups- just when I thought I was over pain and stiffness!!

There is a school in Stillorgan, which I think is closer to Ranelagh than Templogue.

Regardless I trainin them both, so if you want any information PM me.

I've been training 9 years and still love it.
