    ok heres the problem... while trying to install the Sims2 onto the computer it finally finished and then said, "failed to initialise Direct 3D. Please make sure DirectX 9.0c has been installed on this system. The application will now terminate".. so i downloaded DirectX 9.0c and tried again, but it said the same thing?.. does anyone know the reason for this and/or how to fix it?..

    Can you give us some system details? Any idea what video card is in your system? Afaik Sims 2 doesn't need any super graphics to run.

    You most likely need to update the display driver for the graphics card.

    The most recent release from NVIDIA can be found at this link.

    Specs for Sims 2 say a minimum of 32mb of video memory, do what 8T8 said and update the drivers, see if it makes any difference.

    Given the age of the card, I'm wondering if what the rest of the machine is like. The Sims 2 min specs read like a comedy, though. I presume that you have altered all the games graphical settings to have everything run at the minimum?
