What are the requirements to get a mortgage from Irish financial institutions?

Does one have to present regular proof of income for a certain number of years?

I don't get any payslips, as I am self-employed. Invoices will do I guess.
What if I don't keep my money in a bank, but under a mattress?

    Didn't seem to be a problem for Bertie Ahern . . .

Seriously, though, banks want to see documentary evidence of your income. I'm self-employed too, and for me this has meant giving them copies of the company accounts. If you're in a cash business and the paperwork is sparse, it will make the application process more difficult and you may not get as big a loan as you could if you have paperwork for everything.
