Ads all over the London buses. Torchwood start date is set for Sunday October 22nd. There are 13 parts so it will continue on past The Runaway Bride, but the bbc is saying there will not be much by way of crossovers.

Was the date on the poster? Any chance it had a time on it as well?

I only ask because the only times that BBC3 has with unconfirmed programmes is midnight, 2am and 3am (according to Digiguide) and the BBC Press Office Programme Information guide has it down as starting that week, but no confirmed date or time.

No time, just the date. All I know is it's post watershed, and 45 mins long. I'd say it'll be on between 8 and 10.

It's set post S2/S28 in terms of the Dalek finale and Torchwood's position there? I mean given the show is about time travel it could be contemporary with any season :)

I've seen this date elsewhere already so I'm taking it as truth. I do hope it stands on its own and doesn't rely much on Who continuity, including that show's monsters mythos.

And with the show's post-water shed slot and Davies working in the background, maybe if there's romance it'll explore Jack's taste for both sides of the fence..

AFAIK its very much on its own, chasing things around Cardiff and the like and there isnt much cross-over of villans or races/situations.

Also, the first ep debuts on BBC3 repeated following week on 1 is what I'm told.

Thanks for the tip off iguana.

Saw an ad for it on tv earlier but it only said "coming soon"...

    The tv ad looks deadly!

Hummmm.................. Buffy in Cardiff anyone? Hellmouth/fissure in time and space indeed...............

When it starts there'll be theads quite similar to the ones in the Battlestar Galatica Forum (Which I am trying VERY HARD not to look at) on each ep.

    What did everyone think?

I thought the first episode was very strong, but the second one seemed very run of the mill.. But it really is very refreshing to see a science fiction show that has gore and sex in it... It's certainly far more extreme than I would have expected.

I'm not too sure about the whole
having Captain Jack being unkillable idea. It kind of removes any element of danger.... Although the hand in the jar is interesting... is that the hand the Doctor lost during the Christmas invasion? They played some of the music from Who when the jar got broken anyway.

I believe it is meant to be the Doctor's hand

Were there 2 episodes shown or just the one?

They showed two of them. I'd forgotten about it too.... but they repeated them at 1am on BBC 3.

I have to say I didn't really like either episode but I'll give it a chance to grow on me. I really hated the geeky doctor guy who looks like a cross between Lee Evans and a frog.

And whoever was doing John Barrowman's make-up should be shot, it was incredibly distracting. Captain Jack had very little of the charm he had in DW. I've heard he's supposed to be back in a few DW ep's next season, so unless Torchwood improves I can honestly say that the only reason I'll stay tuned in is to keep up with what happens with Jack so it makes sense when he's back in DW.

Viewing figures set new cable/sat record for non-sport programme.

Woah, cool! Especially if the show is good enough to warrant the popularity. I'm still waiting for Ep 2 to come into my possession so I haven't watched any of it yet.

    Oh yes.... he's horrible.

And what's with Jack's fetish for standing around on top of tall buildings?

He got hit on the head during an American football game and thinks he's Batman?

It gives the cameraman the chance to show Cardiff in all its glory?

They don't seem to need an excuse for doing that. Every third shot seems to be an aerial view of Cardiff. Which is not an aerially impressive city.

    Lots of roundabouts though.

Watched episode 2 last night and I'm just wondering if anyone has noticed the scary similarities between the characters of Gwen and Rose? Even the layout of Torchwood seems similar to that of the last two seasons of Dr Who where the emphasis is on the female lead as opposed to the Doctor or Torchwood team.
