    howdy,

i finally have a problem with my mac, almost exactly a year after i bought it

    anyway, i have a ppc imac g5,
there are three usb 2 ports on the rear,
the middle one doesn't work the other 2 work grand, i had a usb key plugged in the now not working one and now the usb key doesn't mount either, not in any port. although it is recognised on a wondows machine and it attempts to format it which i dont want it to cos i got important files on it.

any help, preferably medicine is much appreciated!
    SM

When you plug it into the faulty USB port, does it show up in system profiler at all? Does the faulty USB port show up in system profile? It may be shorted out.

    well, amazing macs!
what ever was wrong, its now working fine again, so im thinking it must have been dust or something, usb stick still doesn't mount, not on any mac (laptop or desktop) but i checked the hardware profiles and it is recognised as a kingston 512mb usb device (which it is) its just not mounting.

maybe someone might know of some software that might force it to mount or something similar, just so i can get the files, then it'll be a re-format.

thanks for the help urban, much appreciated:)
