My kid got a hold of my pc today

and now IE will not load at all.
when I run it from quick links it gives me an error (general MS error) and when I close the error, IE disappears also.

I can run IE by right clicking the icon and Run As - Current User - and it opens but all my favourites are gone (still there in Docs & settings ) and cookies have been deletted.

why would it kill itself by running it from a quick link and thru start menu.

    any ideas folks.

    thx

Go Control Panel > add/remove > window Components > un-tick IE and select Next. Once that is completed go back to window Components and put the tick back in IE and select next.

Its not the really recommened, but have you tried System Restore? to a date before your son was messing on the PC.

have tried both - but nothing.

there is only a system check within system restore.
I did a restore to one of these but nothing was changed.

    what next ???

Can you run it from the root? Maybe it's the shortcuts that are affected and that's why system restore didn't work......

Now it's starting to look like an Accounts issue

    anyone else have any ideas.

    please read above for info.
look like it could be user account related but not too sure how to fix.
also ie will not let me into any secure site eg aib.ie or ebs.ie

    thx

tried the first one 8t8 but no luck.

as this problem is 1 day old now - the heading be off-putting.
I think the issue is with my profile possibly.

IE will not display my fav even though they are in the correct location as before.
Yahoo does not auto log me in.
    when I type www.boards.ie an error stating C/:doc & settings/homepc/desktop/ is not available ....???

can I reproduce or just start a new profile -- how

    thx folks.

    just created a new profile.

copied over fav & desktop etc. and all is working fine.

looks like my old profile must have been corupted.

will also do a system restore point now :D

question - how do I copy over my email account from my old profile to my new one.
the pc thinks I am a new user and wants to config a new outlook.

    thx folks

You should be able to locate the settings/emails/addresses by File->Import in Outlook. (I think)

Outlook keeps everything in each users account. You will need to reconfigure your account settings, though any saved emails and addresses you have can be found in your old profile folder in Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. You will need to copy the PST file to the same location in the new profile folder, and set it as the Local Folder in the Mail icon in the Control Panel.
