Moving this question from the other thread:

A quick question, just out of interest -- you thank god when your pain disappears. Did you also thank god when the pain first arrived, or did you feel unthankful to god, or did you feel the event was unrelated to god (or something else)?

Well the pain really kicked off after lifting an industrial floor sander up some stairs. Miracles do happen sure, but it would be unreasonable for me to expect to lift (with my back) something that heavy without having any consequences. I don't expect God to give me super human strength whenever I like so I can go about my daily living with more ease. In most cases I think God is content to let things run their natural course. Back pain after such a foolish exercise is fairly natural. I didn't feel unthankful to God. That would be like banging my head against a wall and blaming God for not turning it into a fluffy pillow so I wouldn't hurt myself.

I didn't thank God for the pain, no. Perhaps I could have if that pain caused something good to happen in my life. You never know just how God will bring about changes so you've prompted me to think back on the changes that having that pain brought about in my life. While I didn't thank God for the pain itself I still thanked God for various other blessings in my life. After all, without God, I have nothing and am nothing. The mere knowledge that God exists has brought me so much joy in itself.

Do you think it could have gotten better without praying to god?

Well yeah, people get better all the time without praying. My primary motivation for praying to God is not to tell Him what I need (He is God afterall and knows everything) it is because I have a relationship with God and any relationship requires communication.
