dog run surface

have a dog run built for last year or so.
surface is basically layers of stone so drainage is very good on it.
I had a few cm's of sand on of the stone - does not work too well.. sand gets everywhere (dogs have access from run into a shed via a dog flap).

Anyone any recommendations for surfaces? Pehaps those rolls of fake grass or something?

No idea how much fake grass costs but patio slabs are easier but you might have to shift the gravel first.
