So i have got knocked out of the boards tourney in 4th for 1500euro. It certainly was one of the best tourn's i have played and a lot of credit needs to go to Ian and the SE for this. The demand for this type of structure and buy-in is obvious. It was also great to play with top class players like HJ, Dave Masters and Conor Smyth, all who i left battling out for the top prize. Cardshark, though for me, played the best poker. He just picked the wrong stack to put a move on . WP sir.
However, this one hand will show the talent of none other than our well respected HJ. I am still hurting but hey, i know ill learn from this.... please dont point at me and laugh the next time you see me after reading this.
    Here goes....
2nd hand of the night (we had to come back today to finish the tourn off),
i make up the big blind with 65ss. I have 100k, HJ 300k
    Blinds are 3000/1500with a 300 ante
    Flop 2 6 2 One heart
i bet 4000. Called by HJ
Turn J hearts I bet 4000, HJ raises to 24000. I think he's bluffing so call.
River 10 hearts to complete 3 hearts.
I bet 20000, HJ raises me all in.
I always felt i was ahead but couldnt make the call.
    wait for it....

HJ turns over 3 4 no hearts to take it down.

The rest of the tourny was painful to say the least.
    WP HJ.

ul Alan, you played well. I meant to ask you what you had on the second last table when you reraised me and I thought about pushing. I had AJ and was nearly going to but then decided to not go with my gut feeling and folded.

I think he just got lucky on the river. The only thing I could say is maybe that you should push the turn if you're certain you think you're good, it's a very draw heavy board and alot of cards on the river could improve HJ's hand. But as it played out I think you played it well, just got unlucky that he rivered the house.

Why bet the river? Is this a "blocking bet" or do you think he will call you with 44 (remember this is HJ and not Cardshark you're playing against)? Other than this I think your play is fine, he will be bluffing there sometimes but not always.

As far as I recall the details are slightly wrong. The flop had 2 hearts, and the turn was a heart. I had the three of hearts in my hand. I still ended with nothing.

I probably shouldnt post this, but before we started I thought you were going to be my biggest obstacle to winning until heads up. Dave M would not commit any chips without a strong hand until he had locked up 2nd at least, so you were the key player, if you got some chips you would be a danger to me. Also you had the only player who had gotten the best of me so far in the tournament; so I had decided that I was going to go after you as soon as possible and try and cripple you.

The way the hand played I was certain you had a 6 and couldnt call. I think your bet on the river is bad because it will never be called by a worse hand, and actually makes it easier for me to bluff you.

I thought you played very well and was very glad when you were gone!

a worse hand might not call but better ones will fold. is that not why we bet here? also, 20K into a 63K pot when you have c70K left, does that look weak or strong?

what better hand gets this far and then folds here for 20k? It's not really likely Daragh ends up with a T or a J here, it's even less likely he folds those hands. 77-99 are possible but probably raised preflop.
