NTL Digital box

    Hi All,

New to the forum and a few questions about NTL digital.

    Scenario:
A friend of mine left the republic and gave me his old NTL digital cable reciever (PACE 4001) with a card (White with the NTL logo on it). I guess the card is no longer valid as he hasn't paid for his subscription for ages. I have the analogue NTL basic pack here in Dublin which I'm not paying for as NTL have f'd up the moving of the subscription when I moved house, which was 3 years ago!!!

    The Questions:
    1. Can I use the digital box for anything as better picture on the basic pack + city channel and more?
    2. Will the box send a signal to NTL "telling" them that a box is connected to the grid and a subscription is missing?
    3. I haven't connected the receiver yet as I don't have a propper f-connection jack, but when I turn it on the receiver it says tuning and I can't enter any menues from the remote. The tv picture is black when connected to a scart. Is this expected from the box or is there something wrong with it?

Any reply would be very much appreciated.

    Cheers

1:You'll get feck all channels worth watching
    2: No
3:That's all the box will say till you give it some signal. If you do hook up a signal and it still says "tune" it's knackered.

If you watching NTL even basic analog without a sub they can back bill you for several years. It's theft.

ntl should be required to "unbundle" their BB , digital TV & analogue services,
why should the customer have to pay €20 for a TV service they don't want ?
NTL could scramble the analogue channels as well & in so doing provide BB alone
    to those who want it.
An BTW please don't call the the analogue service Line Rental:mad:

Why should they sell you something for less than they want too?

No,...not for less,....for nothing, BB customers should get free analogue tv,...
would you turn an offer like this it down ? let them bump the digital TV package up to €20. :)

I wouldn't see it happening. Of course I wouldn't turn it down. If you offered me a car for free I wouldn't turn it down either. However both are rediculous scenarios. :)

The only channel you can get without a card is TV3. Even watching that is theift, if you haven't paid for an NTL digital subscription.

No it's not a leap. You want something for free. Why would they give this to you when they do not have to? If they stopped charging people who had BB for basic cable, it would be the same as giving away plenty of free cars.
