A Rude Awakening

Can anyone sympathise with me here? Is there anyone out there who lives near front square and gets disturbed punctually by the damn bells on the hour, every hour, all through the night? What use does it serve in this day of the digital age to be told at 4am that, it is, frankly, 4am?

I'm in Botany Bay, bells don't really bother me, would sleep through them anyways.

I've never heard of anyone complaining before. They're not really all that loud.

There are no bells, its sound of the beating heart of the man you killed and buried in your room....you sicken me.

They're good for you, waken you up in the morning, and the later you sleep in, the more insistent they become until you reach 1pm

I find that with any kind of bells etc you only notice for the first few days and then get used to it and don't notice.

Can anyone sympathise with me here? Is there anyone out there who lives near a farm and gets disturbed punctually by the damn noises made by cows and hens, all the time, all through the night? What use does it serve in this day of the industrial age to have actual animals disturbing our sleep with their 'noises'?

(On a more serious note, although I'm immune to the bells, the bloody Garda 'copter annoys me)

I currently sleep through anything. though thanks to my windows not closing quite fully I've now had to take to putting my shutters across to keep the worst of the cold out. Works great, unfortunately it also makes it waaay too easy to sleep in :D

I actually find them quite soothing. I didn't have to turn my head to know what time it was! As Andrew_83 said, you won't notice them after a week or so.

What always woke me up though was when people (esp. tourists in the summer) were shouting outside the GMB as if there was no-one living in there, or else the security van zooming by.

I got woken up by the constant noise of the creaky gate onto Temple Road for the first few days back here, but I'm getting used to it. You will too, OP.

Ignore all this pro-bell propaganda. The bells are loud, you don't get used to it and you will still notice them after a couple of weeks. They drove me demented in 3rd year.

The game I love playing is "Guess The Voice". It's great fun hearing people talk outside my window in New Square (still haven't come down off that buzz) and seeing how many I can recognise. In a scary confirmation of my social whorage and hackery, most of them...

Yeah I'm getting that too - its scary.

bleh, shopping time soon I think...

  • Is it just me who finds the whole campus pretty noisy? There are always people hollering in New Square at night. That doesn't bother me too much but Front Square must be pretty bad? Especially if you're facing out onto the road with all the traffic night and day.

I'd say it'll quieten down now that FW is over. I've used the Laser Huts at 2:30 am before and walking through the Campus has been a beautiful oasis of calm and peace. It's really lovely. I'd almost set my alarm to walk around the grounds. Crash, what house are you in again? I'm back in Lucan right now (I got dizzy and fainty on Friday so I went back for some food and rest) but there should be internal New Square 'refreshmentage'. The Front Square people can suffer. They have modern plugs. Let them swivel on their three pin flat I say ;)
