Waddingtons Marvel Super Top Trumps

I had these in the late 80's. There was a super hero and a super villian set and they were the business! If I remember correctly there were 32 cards in each set. So there were 64 of Marvels greatest creations with score categories of Height: Weight: Strength: Superpowers: and Weapons: I think that was all the categories. Dr. Doom was my favourite card, but Galactus was pretty much unbeatable. If you nabbed him somehow from an opponent during an exchange it was always a pivotal moment in the game(HaHa! I remember it all so vividly!)

I stupidly left them behind in school one day and never saw them again! Did anyone else spend those lazy days playing this gem of a game?

I'm currently on the lookout for both sets for my younger brother but they seem to be out of print - don't know why because I'm sure they would currently sell well.

Top Trumps were great. I had loads of them but the Super Heroes and Super Villains ones were the best. The Fantasy ones with the Demon, Dragon, King etc were cool too. I still have the Super Heroes ones at home somewhere.

I remember seeing them on eBay before. Have you tried there?

Yep I had those two set too (still have them actually). I loved the character illustrations but the I always remember is that I'd never read/seen much Marvel material at the time and the lives/stories I'd imagined for these guys were far more interesting than anything I subesequently learnt about them in the years followings.

    I guess Marvel sucks?

Even on their own the Superhero and Villains sets were pretty cool but mixing them together created this giant Top Trumps game that you thought would last forever. My friend still has both sets. We played a game last year and I kicked his ass.

I love some of the illustrations in the Fantasy set. The werewolf card is genuinely the best rendition of a werewolf I've ever seen. The dragon, ghost and barbarian cards are all very atmospheric as well.

Another set I loved was the Cowboys set. Billy the Kid, Jesse James. I think the categories were Age, Number of Kills, Reputation and something else. Maybe Posse or something?

Never owned any sets myself. The modern ones seem to lack the level of attention lavished on the originals.

I loved the Cowboy set too :) I think the other category might have been "Reward" or something similar. I had a load of sets as I kept getting them from Aunts and Uncles for my birthday and Christmas etc. I remember the Dinosaurs set, planes, military fighters, fastest cars etc. Great fun :)

I'd love to track down a set of Cowboys, Horror and Fantasy sets. they're my 3 favourites. Here's a link I found for playing the Western Gunfighters original online. Not the same as having the deck in your hand but a nice trip down memory lane all the same. If anyone has a set to sell PM me as I would be interested.
