Im surprised they have cancer in Cuba - didnt their socialist paradise outlaw it some time ago?

Most Cubans are praying for his death, and above all change. Except for the fanatics and of course the foreign wing of Castros supporters. Mind you, the state owned media is apparently working overtime to convince the population that a US invasion fleet is being prepared to storm the island shortly, classic trick from the Chavez style of manipulation.

Will change come though? Is the chance of democracy developing greater than the chances of a coup d'etat and military junta taking power?

I'm sure you have the statistics to back this up.

If Cubans hated him so much, how come he can walk amongst his people without needing anywhere near the level of security the 'democratically elected' George Bush brings with him everywhere he goes in america and abroad.

While certainly the latter I doubt the former.

The simple anyway is that the world doesn't work that way. It isn't "one person in charge". For example If you were to remove Bush from power do you think overnight everything would change? The same with Cuba. It's not just Castro running the show.

I doubt anybody made such an outlandish claim. But they probably did make the claim that Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate than the US and almost as long a life expectancy.

In fact in terms of Infant mortality and Life expectancy (which are two generally well thought of indicators for commitment to public health and quality of life) Cuba's figures are closer to those of Western Europe than to the rest of south America. And way better than for African countries, whose corresponding figures are terrible.

Oh and I'm sure you're impressed that the source for those statistics is the CIA.
