Anyone know when this will be broadcast in High Def? I'd give my eye teeth for a high resolution version.

The sci-fi channel quality + xvid encode (omicron noobs) = absoute SH*TE (partially convinced that it was done as a single pass encode to speed up delivery...noobs). Honestly. I haven't even watched episode 2 yet. Not even sure if I will. :/

Just wait a day or two. I got a lovely 1.5gig version of smallville 6x01 the other day. Amazing quality!!! Came out four days after the airing.

All from the magic ditch of course :)

That's the thing, I'm not sure if it has been aired in High Def yet. I know SciFi film in high def, but broadcast in normal def (They sell on high def versions to other channels).

If it has been broadcast in high def, or will be soon, I'd love to know.

Nope Sci-Fi channel don't do HDTV (and not for another while). You will have to wait till their parent company, remasters the episodes to high def for the boxed dvd set, in oh, a good few months ..

Universal HD showed BSG S2 in hd, I got a 1gb high def episode from it a few months back. But they're at least a couple of months behind. Unfortunately we'll have to put up with the sci-fi's low quality for now :(

I painfully managed to track down most of season 2 in HD, but torrents seem spotty at best.

Lost,Prison Break and Smallville all have high definition,5.1 releases the day they are aired in the US.
    BSG unfortunately doesnt.

Spoke to the wife, telling her that we were stuck with the sh*tty quality omicron eejit encodes (BSG seems universally appealing, as she doesn't generally like sci-fi). Her reaction was: "WTF? Geeks like sci-fi, geeks like high-def, but the sci-fi channel doesn't broadcast in high-def? Eejits."

    I concur.

I would pay pretty hefty money to have (ONLY ) the sci-fi channel in high-def.

Why don't you just pay some money for the DVD's when they're out?

I notice a lot of people on various sites calling out for HD alright.. don't see too much need myself though. 350mb is the sweet spot for me, and the quality of these things I find surprisingly good.

Now if I was actually paying for the privilege I might consider myself in a position to complain.

I have done. :D I consider battlestar worth shelling out for. No question.

I have a high-def ready projector though, and a htpc hooked up to it projecting at 1280x720. You should fracking see what high def content looks like on a 2.5 metre screen. Every time I see it, it absolutely blows me away. I've had the projector about a year now and I'm still constantly amazed by high def stuff on it. :)

Proper high def is substantially better than DVD quality.

Well, with that set-up, I see your point :D

Watching on a laptop screen myself.. so no need.

    :D

Went searching for hd-dvd version. Nothing on the horizon unfortunately.

The setup all sounds very swanky, but it was very reasonable (certainly a chunk cheaper than a nice plasma).

I agree, Im very happy with the current file size/quality thing that sci-fi programs usually have, any higher and my hard drive would die, already have 140gig of the stuff

Ah, you can get decently encoded 350M files, no doubt. The last few from S3 were very badly encoded IMO (possibly single pass encodes they were so bad).

For anyone who's interested, the earliest that S3 will be shown in high def is at the beginning of next year. Universal HD has schedules up to December 31st which covers up to the end of S2. Link.

SciFi makes more $$$ on dvds than anything else anyway: I doubt they were in any rush to give you the best on a TV broadcast (too easy to pirate)
