Another quick question. When i boot up my machine tells me I have a gig of ram, however in windows its only showing up as 512 mb. Any ideas? I have two 512 sticks of DDR in there

cpuz will tell you what it should see

settings in boot.ini can tell windows to "burn memory" or use maxmem

if you have two 512's in try swapping them around - really only of use on older systems where timing was determined by the lower slot

Get your motherboard manual out and look up the correct configurations for the slots ,

If I remember correctly there used to be various configs on some motherboards where the memory could be paired for extra speed but you had to use matched pairs and you lost half your capacity !!

Check your manual and see if this is the case with the slots on your board.
