A mate is doing a dj mix on his decks and he is going to be recording straight into his mac but he doesn't have any app installed to be able to record the input and to save it as an mp3. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a free application for this?

not sure, he would be using stereo cables from the decks to the mac, probably direct input then into a soundcard.

Audacity - google it for mac. Great open source sound recording software.

In that case he'll need a Griffin iMic or similiar product. Then something like Audacity would be grand to just record the DI from the deck.

Apple used to have a very handy little app called Sound Studio which was free, dont know if they are still doing that or not. Of course if he only wants the record the audio and is not interested in any of the processing effects that Audacity has to offer he could always just download Wiretap or something and record the DI with that.

What hardware and software would I need to be able to record multitracks of myself and a guitar, onto a Mac? Presumably a Mic, but there's no socket for my mic, so would I be able to get an adaptor that changes it to a USB plug for instance? Or alternatively, how much would a USB mic set ya back?

And would GarageBand be any use for this? I don't wanna mess around with it much, just a basic recording.

    Thanks
