Interesting piece from the New Stateman about why English football, while going global in business and on telly, is losing real supporters in England (in one case to rugby league!)

Not much point linking to a link.

I thought the summary was worthwhile, because it takes it from a different angle, and that the other Bungiership material in the Bohsnews Politics & business section provided good context.

So, it's like it's own little forum, where you can adjust whats reported in other media, reword and rearrange it, so that it's a totally different article altogether?.

Why not just post the directly on boards then, as opposed to linking it?.
Saying it's from the Newstatesman, and then adjusting the content, is that not just a bit daft?.

I assume the point is to get hits on bohsnews, a lot of wesbites do that regurgitate content to suit their audience then post it as their own view.

What sanctimonious hogwash. It most certainly is not spam.
It brings something of value to the board, that perhaps some, though certainly not all, would want to read.
The reason the link goes through Bohsnews is to give it context. If you read the piece raw, it is written from a general perspective, and not from the point of view of a football fan. You could conclude from the early paragraphs that it is just another prissy anti-football rant. What I have done is to give it a different emphasis, so that it is relevant to a football-viewing or football-attending audience, though emphatically not to change the sense of what is being said. (For example, I have referenced the fan who defected to rugby league, because he feels it is more real than bungiership football.)
And if you think that's not what happens in anything you read or hear, right from boards.ie to The Irish Times to New Statesman, then you are very naive indeed.
Another way in which directing the link through Bohsnews is to give it the context of related articles, e.g. 'Faking hell', so that it becomes part of a larger idea. I don't claim that this is original journalism, at least in the conventional sense. It's aggregation: although there is some commentary, the message is really in the mix of articles selected. Again, if you have been on the web for a while you will understand how that works, and perhaps see that an awful lot of what goes on is just that. I think most message board mods and readers with a bit of insight will get that.
Bohsnews is an amateur affair. Its main aim is to bring news about the club together in one place, because coverage is so sparse in our Premiership-obsessed national media. It also has organically grown sections on media, on business & politics, and on the league, in which it deliberately focuses on issues that might otherwise get lost or just peter out in the mass of sports coverage. It might not be your cup of tea, but how you can equate it to selling penis enlargements and miracle stock options, or offering a clean credit rating, I don't know.
Bohsnews doesn't get paid for its ads, and doesn't crave traffic for its own sake. So don't worry, no one is on the make when you put in that single extra click.

Why did you decide to announce it as a piece from the newstatesman, and link to your own spin on it then?.

Because it is from the New Statesman!

Why not just post whatever you write on your site here, and link directly to the article. Otherwise it just looks like you are desperate to get people to visit your site.

This is exactly what it looks like.

Because the board entries slip down quickly, and the content for practical purposes would be lost; because Bohsnews gives it focus, and because the content can be organized more effectively into categories. Bohsnews currently has 609 articles. If I were to put a link to each one I would flood the board.

More fundamentally, because this board has a different purpose and emphasis. As it says, Bohsnews is the world through black and red lenses. It doesn't try to pretend otherwise, although there seems to be a suggestion that putting things from a BFC or Irish football supporter perspective is somehow dishonest.

I'm not going to pretend that I don't want people to visit the site. Ideally, I would love every Liverpool and ManU-obsessed individual in Ireland to click into it, see what a fantastic club Bohemian FC is, how great Irish football could be if they got behind it, and how Irish football is continually stiffed by the goverment and the media (and yes, by the FAI), and, how going to a football match where you live is a much more enjoyable and authentic way of supporting a club than is watching it on Sky or courtesy of Ryanair.

They would have a blinding flash of realisation, repent the error of their ways, and become real devotees of the beautiful game. In a nice way. Without ramming it down people's throats. (Disclosure: I haven't got time to do both Leedsnews  and Bohsnews). That's the mission: I'm not so innocent that I think it will succeed in every case!

But please don't tell me I'm desperate for you to visit. As I said, if it doesn't float your boat, and you're not curious as to what is being referenced, or you don't want to hear nasty things being said about football in England, don't click that link.

    You said it

Each to their own, even I'm fed up with the eL -vs- Premiership rubbish at this stage. There are better ways to get people into eL football. If every eL fan tried to get their mates to go to games etc... No point preaching to people over an internet forum. Just gives off an air of false superiority.

Getting away from the promoting of bohsnews, there are some good quotes at the end of the New Statesman article. Worth a quote
When I heard my agent repeat the figure of £55,000 [per week] I nearly swerved off the road. 'He's taking the piss, Jonathan!' I yelled down the phone. I was trembling with anger.
