Sky+ (but not from Sky)

    Silly question of the day........

Is it possible to get a Sky+ box from another source that is not Sky. That is, is the Sky+ package linked to the Sky Card too. I have a full Sky package for 4 years and I am only thinking now about Sky+(which would be free, except the box) and I am wondering if I could get a box myself and because I have the full package I would automatically be able to use it?

You have to ring Sky with your details to get the card to work in a Sky+ box for recording.

And remember that your dish will have to be modified with a quad LNB and a second cable run down to the Sky+ box.

You don't really want to do this yourself unless you are handy! Anyhow, you will find it difficult to find a Sky+ box any cheaper than from Sky with the offers they occasionally run...

    Ix.

Does anyone know how to get UTV and the ITV channels on the sky digibox, and to be able to record these channels on the Sky + box :)

    Read the stickies.

Unless you have NI or possibly Mainland UK sub, you can't record on Sky+ or SkyHD. Only watch. A FTA PVR will record UTV however, direct from dish/LNB.

Sky+ and SkyHD only record (a) with Recording sub (includded with 2 premium channels) and (b) only from EPG, not "Other Channels".

It's a discracefull expoloitation of a semi monoploy as a non-Sky Pay TV PVR will not work with a Sky viewing card.

Rang Sky, as on there web site, they say that this channel was available to record on sky + box. Asked for frequencies, and was then told, that they are not allowed to pass on that info. Useless shower that they are............

Yes of course it is. In UK / NI. Not here. The frequencies are in the sticky, you can watch but not record. Sky CS frequently get ROI stuff wrong.

I bet if you complain that C4 or Five has stopped working they'll offer "to boost the signal" after telling you to wipe the viewing card (which can damage it with static BTW.).
