Hi. Hoping people can tell me what kind of download speeds they get from their BT broadband. I have a 2Mb connection and tend to get a maximum of 60kbps. I was really hoping for a lot more.

I have 1Mb BT Broadband connection and download speeds average about 110k/sec. 60kb for a 2Mb seems very slow.

    I have the 1mb one too and average 100 - 110k/sec.

I have a 2mb connection also and it vary's between 40kbs to 170kbs its seems like a contention problem but BT deny that they say it could be my phone line but I am very sceptical about that

Depends on where you're downloading from. From a particular server in Ireland I get 300+ kb/s. For torrents from one private tracker I always get 180-250. From another one with a public tracker I get 120-200. And other slower sites I might only get 20.

This is with 3mb connection btw.

Im on 2Mb line and i get around 60kbps during the day. but at around 1am thereafter i get around 215kbps so its not my phoneline thats the problem, although its not near the max 256kbps but thats not expected anyway. I would use the net more during the day. Technically 1Mb is capable of 125kbps, so me having a 2Mb line at 60kbps seems a bit daft when you can have a 1Mb line at the same or over, anyone?

I'm having problems as well. Noticed a huge decrease in download speeds over the past few days. I'm on the 3m connection. Checked out my stat and it shows
    Upstream Speed: 384 kbps
    Downstream Speed: 1184 kbps

Now correct me if I'm wrong but that downstream number should be 3084kbps or something. This happen to anyone else?

Noticed the same last night as well.

Hadnt been using it for a few days but last night it was crawling!!!

Have a 3MB and last night it was around 345K.

Been trying to ring Customer Care on a messed up invoice issue yesterday but kept waiting for ages (10 mins) and then dropped.

Trying to ring them now on the invoice issue and the speed issue - but on hold now for 5 mins...

Thought BT was a bit more stable on all sides...

I came across your forum while I was looking at ISP providers with a view to changing from BT. So glad (sorry everyone) that it's not just me having these problems. Connection is dodgy, internet phones don't work, hang on for hours to get through to tech support, just to get through to someone who can't seem to speak a word of intelligible English (sounds like you get through to the Asian subcontinent!). To get to the point, I am supposed to have a 4 MG connection. On a speed test, on a good day, 1 can get 1 MG, other times I think I've reverted to dial up. The insulting thing is I've supposed to have been 'upgraded' to this from 1 MG. I'd love to know how they can classify 1 MG or slower as 4 MG...

This is BT Ireland that people are talking about, you have your location as Derby, UK. So, eh, wrong country there.

The "bs" at the end there means it's bull :p It happens with download clients frequently, they just calculate the initial download speed poorly.

Kbs:cool: 700meg file was downloading in 3 minutes..definately hit speeds of 3340kbs but for a short period, 5 secs maybe

Not physically possible pal :) Just a bad calculation.

You're obviously an expert so I'll not argue:p but I will say the download increased 15 to 20% in those seconds in what was a slooooooooow D/L that took over 4 hours and maxed out at around 40kbs

dogpile, If there's any more mentions of illegally download content by you or anyone else I'll be handing out bans

I'm on the 2 MB line and max out at just over 200 Kb/s or 1.7 Mbps, which is fine really. My service has been fantastic aswell, probably went down just two or three times in the last few months and only had to reboot the modem to fix it. My only problem is that the wireless performance on the ZyXel isn't great, but seen as they upgraded my modem for free a few months ago when they were offering free wireless to new signups, I can't really complain.
