Calling all Hackers, Phreakers and Technology lovers in the Kildare / Dublin Area. Irelands first Defcon Group DC35304 has just been setup and is looking for members.

For those who don’t know, a Defcon Group is a meeting place for like minds. Anyone with an interest in technology is welcome. There will be talks on different topics, games and discussions on virtually everything from the latest Linux kernel to hacking coke machines. There will also be a tech support section of the meeting, where if you are having problems with, for example, installing a driver or writing a kernel module we will help as much as we can.

You don’t have to be a genius, or hold a degree to join. Just simply have an open mind and a willingness to learn new tricks. There are no age limits as knowledge knows no limits. You can be 12 or a 112. It doesn’t matter.

I know the word hacker tends to scary some people, but we use the 1960’s definition of the word: “a hacker is someone who enjoys solving problems and taking technology to its limits”. This is not a gathering of criminals plotting to take over the world. (If it was, do you think we would of posted this?)

Anyone interested should email cyberax262@gmail.com for more details.

The first meeting place hasn’t been decided as we are still recruiting members, but it most likely will be in Maynooth, due to the amount of transport and access provided by train and bus.

Think you've kind of been beaten by the 2600 crowd there, mate...

Also, I'd say most people who read a Security forum will already know what the word 'hacker' means.

might want to get a website going or put yourself up on the defcon forums http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-groups/dc-groups-index.html

Your choice of venue...Maynooth, Jasus :) not very central there...and yes it may have good bus and rail, but so does Leitrim

did the meetings not start back in 1999?

There was some set up before whom met outside st. stephens green, actually there was two. But they didn't last long.

A couple of years later they started back up and were also run by different people - older crowd and more open I would say.
