    http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/05/wii-production-exceeding-expectations/

According to the article, production of Wiis is happening faster than expected. So, chance are my pre-order might not have been necessary (nice safety blanket all the same).

I think the strategy of not using bleeding-edge technology (at least not inside the console) will pay off in the short term, plenty of consoles, low price, no need for a hdtv.

Hopefully anyway, day one, nobody will be dissapointed and we can all go home and play the new zelda. :)

PS playing the Minish Cap on my GBA Micro currently - its ****ing awesome.

I did it in Gamestop. Game and Smyths (and probably HMV) are doing it too. I don't know which is best, it will all probably come down to bundles - if they force some crappy games on you.

Im of course gona get it with Zelda (no brainer) , i dont know about Red Stell yet, some of the new Sword fight videos look to have new AI enemies but still looks sluggish, and Rayman Ribbids yoke looks funny but is it like a Mario/Banjo Kazooie game or what will it be like??

EDIT Will it cost €249 in Gamestop for definite?

While it could have been a temporary price point, the Wii console came up as €259.99 on the till when I preordered mine. I reckon that will be the cost.

Between €260 and €275 at this stage. I'm sure €250 is pretty much ruled out for now.

with major releases, do companies like play.com wait til release date to post them out, or do they attempt to post them to arrive on the release date?

don't want to buy a single game here!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 nellyrev

what game are we talking about?

id say its 2-3 weeks in advance of the games specific launch window..

but maybe it is as soon as their offices get a final and concrete release date!!

They send them out early with the intention of you getting the game on release day, however it doesn't work since we are in Ireland and they are, usually, in Jersey or Hong Kong. I ordered Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, it is due for release today so it got sent on wednesday, it didn't arrive today. Not like I expected it to anyway, will probably have it on monday.

I think everyone buying a Wii that knows it should be 250 Euro should ask why they are charging about RRP?

Personally I'd rather buy online and get screwed on postage than support the price fixing going on here.

i dunno, there's a bunch of games i'm interested in.

if i just pick 'em up instore i'll prob be sensible and only get one or two, but if do my shopping on play the pretend money (credit card!) and savings might make be irresponsible and order millions.

    oh dear oh dear

i'm away for a few days almost immediately after release, so maybe internetting is grand anyway

I speculated this in a previous post; Nintendo UK's operation includes Ireland, so they lump us with the UK price point (£179) converted to Euros.

At the moment, that's approximetly €266. It could go either way, but if we end up having to fork out €270, we'll be paying the most for a Wii in Europe.

The same goes for every console every released here, no wait, anything on sale in this country including food, always that little bit extra on top because the majority of people say "Ah sure" and absorb the unexplained extra cost. Treasure Ireland!.

The pre-order price i saw in game on thursday evening was €274.99. So game seem to be in the lead in terms of most expensive launch price on that basis.

Can anyone confirm what Smyths will be selling the console and games for?

If they sell it to you for 260 they can't say it's not that price. If they decide to sell it higher, they'll have to at least over you the money for the preorder back.

They should also give you back the excess money or not charge it to you in the first place if the price is less.

You don't generally pay full price for a pre-order anyway.

    edit--

In saying that I've never preordered anything, thats just what I've heard from other people.

I don't like the idea of preordering as I change my mind a lot.

I was in town looking on Monday and saw HMV advertising the price as €269.99 on Grafton Street. I then crossed over to Dawson Street and in Game there on the preorder notice they had €249.99 as the price. Unless my eyes deceived me.

I was passing Game again today and the notice which was up next to the pink DS Lite notice in the doorway is gone...

I don't know, when the DS launched, it launched for RRP in Game in Liffey Valley but that might of been down to them not thinking anyone would buy it.

When the manager of Galway's GAME rang me about a preorder, he said it'll be €250 "to the best of [his] knowledge". I'd say it's still up in the air, and shops advertising it for €269.99 are simply playing it safe for now.

After getting the call about the pre-orders, I went into GAME in the Square Tallaght, and when I asked about the final retail price, the guy went back to ask the manager, and said it'd be €250-ish, they had no way of knowing for sure yet , but they would call closer to release date to confirm the pre-order and double check what games I wanted with it.

Also of interest: I also pre-ordered Legend Of Zelda for Wii and they only had the gamecube skew for it, so when he asked what to do about the pre-order he was told to use the gamecube skew for it, as they wouldn't be getting the gamecube version in...
