Think the title speaks for itself - will have been with my new boyfriend for about two and a half months by the time his birthday comes around & want to get him something that shows him I put some thought into it. He already has all the obvious stuff like ipod, digital camera, good watch etc so I'm at a loss! Your suggestions would be very welcome.......

    (BTW, he's early thirties)

Well it depends i guess how serious you are ... Maybe cook him a lovely dinner candles a bit of romance etc... have a nice evening ;)
Possibly a sentimental gift a piece of jewelry chain etc.....
Activity days are fun too - if he’s adventurous you could get him a day driving a rally car or a tank www.greatdaysout.ie , www.topgifts.ie etc... have a look on there. Many other sites too which provide the same stuff ..
If he’s into gadgets look at www.iwoot.com

The ideal thoughtful gift would be something he'd love that none of us here could possibly guess he'd like.

Still, if he's got plenty of stuff then your best bets are either tokens (jewelry etc. that one doesn't actually "use" per se, but would enjoy having), consumables (fancy toiletries), pampering sessions (voucher for a good hot-towel shave, voucher for a massage), or activities (either with you or without you).

Activities with you can be relatively inexpensive (if you do more working and less spending) and enjoyed by both of you.

Well I would be a clothes man, never have enough of cool gear, but i suppose it depends on the guy. My chic would get me some clothes in a cool bag with some toiletries. Did the business for me as it would involve heading around shops(which is not easy) but you would want to know what stuff he like and he could always change it if he didnt like it.

You could encase him in carbonite and transfer him back to the deathstar.

    I'd fricking love that.

    Some suggestions:

A years subscription to a magazine that he likes. (Empire, Playboy, Uncut, Q, Train Monthly etc.)
    A day's race car driving.
An X-Box 360 if he plays games.
A handcrafted chess set if he's a chess player.
A weekend away to a foreign city including tickets to go see one of his favourite bands.

Don't overdo it; clothes aren't a great idea because of the whole 'is she trying to change me' vibe. Something small and kawaii that'd be my suggestion.

    Now hang on - An X-Box 360?
    A handcrafted chess board?

She's going out with him for 10 weeks for crying out loud!

Bring him out for dinner, get him a voucher for 150 euro max but don't go over board!!

    1. Buy some ribbon, a pen and piece of white card.
    2. Write on card - 'Open me'
    3. Tie ribbon around yourself - chest height ;)
    4. Hand him the card.

It'll work up the hunger, then order in and back to bed! He'll remember that! Unless you are still at the holding hands stage.

    Have fun.

Something very personal that only you can give him.;)

Keeping with jeff_lebowski's thought about a hand-crafted chess set.....

That would be awesom if he was into chess :o
But find something he really likes, give it the personal touch, and improve it. You can't go wrong, in fairness....

I'd fricken propose right there if my gal did something like that. Jaysus, the love...
