And the only place you can get ink for the printers is DELL - and cartridge world don't refill them and you can't buy generic replacement inks! - not such a bargain then!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

it was when i got a bunch of them 810 printers for 13eu each :D
it was cheaper to throw away the printer ;)

Are these lexmark printers? I've seen the cheaper ones that came with oldler Dells and they were rubbish. Even if they were free I wouldn't have one, too much trouble. Maybe the newer ones are better though.

i have the dell 924 and the quality is very good. i bought this ink refill kit http://cgi.ebay.ie/Dell-924-Dell-944-M4646-Ink-Cartridge-Colour-Refill_W0QQitemZ6869428635QQihZ013QQcategoryZ101325QQcmdZViewItem
off ebay and prints great, just as good as the original cartridge. just buy the refill kits and this printer remains a great bargain.

Actually I think you can get a replacement cartridge at inkclub.com. A few people have told me they could get them refilled. You get what you pay for really. :) mayto, thanks for the feedback re:the 924. Has anyone bought any of the other 50% off models?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,016 ✭✭✭mad m

Yup got a mate of mine the 924 model and it looks very nice, went through the EPP and it worked out at €52 delivered...Plus printer cable you can get for €3 from marxcomputers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 565 ✭✭✭zokrez

I too got one of these last time and use it almost exclusively as a scanner and the odd time as colour printer as I have a laser printer. By the way if anyone is doing any amount of printing and have the space and don't need colour, laser printing is so cheap.

Thinking of getting the 924 and I already have a Z705.

Pretty much all USB cables are the same. Some may be better made, or more flashy but technically they all do the same thing.

Hehe, well €40 is cheaper than €43 for a brand new one in sealed box so everyone was happy:D Oh and the deal was finished at the time I sold it so it would have cost him about €80 to get one at the time;)

The unit itself is fine, I didn't have my own printer or scanner before I got it and it's handy to have just incase. I don't use it a lot but if I need it it's there.

As mentioned they are mostly the same and probably won't matter how good it is for a printer. :)

I see the 924 is down to 40 quid as of this morning.....not a bad deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

Delivery is another 10 Euro :(

Strange as it says on the opening page from €15 Price inc VAT and Del?
And above it it says buy it for €26?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,142 ✭✭✭TempestSabre

These printers don't get great reviews and for not much more you can get a better regarded canon unit or similar from the web.

Was thinking of getting the 924, can't find any of these bad reviews you mention or anything comparable for €40, please enlighten us.

there was some cock up when I ordered a 924 online and the price was 10.89  No idea how that happened.

No money has been taken from my credit card yet so I don't hold out much hope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

Check that's not the delivery charge which added to the base price brings it out at 39.89

Think that was the total delivery charge, old chum. :) I tried it there a second ago, 39.88 eurons is the fule price.

Just checked my print out - they've discounted the printer 100%. Hence me just paying delivery charge.

I try to track my order online but its not live on their system.

Don't hold out much hope on this one.

I'll still buy it for 30 odd quid.

No need to be patronising, I have "googled" the 924 and came up with totally different reviews to yours notably from PC mag, Just tech'n and even e-bay business." Doctors differ, patients die". There is still the matter of €40. I don't run an office or photo lab so I think for that price it's a snip.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

Yep, they are grand for the average Joe Bloggs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,042 ✭✭✭kaizersoze

Oddly enough, 2 of those reviews are identical. They also mention the 964 wasn't great but I'm very happy with my one.
I never really pay too much heed to technical reviews. User reviews are much more useful.

bmaxi, youre right. €40 is a snip and it will be fine for everyday home use.

Hi, Just though I would let you know about the following. If you order the 924 through the dell.ie/epp site, the price is 34 euro. if you order more than 1 the price drops as strangely the delivery charge for 2 is 6 euro + vat. You can get 2 for 53 euro.
I just ordered 3 for 79 euro( disposable printers!!). At 26 euros each its a great buy.

Bugger, they must have reduced them again. I ordered through the EPP last night and the cheapest I could get was €39.88. Tough ****, still think it's good value.

Well mine was listed as despatched when I checked at 3pm today, that was about 15 hours after I ordered it.

Up to 72 hours. The last time they had an offer like this they sold more than they had in stock so there was a big delay sending them out.

Patronising = "enlighten" ? :D Lots of reviews, yes but some I would have have some faith in, some I wouldn't. User reviews can be misleading too, as many people are too undemanding. You have to take a balanced view. Chasing the cheapest isn't always the bargain it seems. Especially if you are unhappy with the output. I know at €40 its a disposable printer, some people will be delighted its cheap and it works, thats all they need. Others might want to pay an extra €20-30 and buy a better unit. Its just another opinion to throw in the fray.

    Patronising = "enlighten" ? :

The posting of the links with a simple "look here" would have been sufficient. The syntax and punctuation of the sentence suggested that I wouldn't have the wit to use Google myself. Call me sensitive but I consider that patronising.

Anyone know what they mean by "Wireless optimised"?

I want to sit the printer upstairs beside my wireless router, but I can't figure out if you need an extra wireless print adapter or what the story is.

From one of the reviews on the web...

"...In case you don't have a spare USB port, or you don't have one close to you, there is the option of purchasing a wireless adapter for the Dell Photo All-In-One Printer 924. With the wireless adapter you can quickly turn this into a network printer and share it will all the computers in your home or office. You also have the freedom of placing the printer in a central location that may not be near a computer. The wireless adapter costs $99 so if you have the money I think the investment is well worth it...."

Had a bit of a scare this morning, my new printer arrived from Dell. Nobody home. Driver rang me. Now I had bought this under the EPP giving AIB Gorey as my employer. "No problem" said the very helpful driver, "my next drop is AIB I'll drop it in there for you." How embarrassing would that have been? Needless to say, got the missus home pretty sharpish. Me ould Mum used to say "Be sure your sins will find you out" Wise lady.
