I was just wondering if anyone here knows how long it will take to get from Kinnegad to Galway when the new motorway is finished to Galway.

Aren't you jumping the gun a bit here - like wait for it to finish and find out - the distance is about 90 miles from Kinnegad to Galway - so if you break the speed limit and have a wet sail at 80 mph the answer will be about an hour ten. if you stick to the 70 mph (or whatever it is in new money) speed limit about 1 hour twenty. If its busy on a Friday who knows - if it is 4 in the morning and you do 90 mph an hour.

Why am I answering this question - just wait until the road is finished and find out for yourself! Whatever it is going to be a wheeze - tolls and all, lets just hope Martin Cullen isn't around to open it.

Jeesh, You could be waiting awhile for that motorway to be finished.
There are going to be quite a few phases.
From Kinnegad to Kilbeggan is expected to open in late next year
Kilbeggan to meet up with Athlone by pass is expected Autumn 08
Athlone to Ballinasloe(EIS stage just completed)
    Ballinasloe to Galway(at tendering stage)

I think your looking at 5-6 years min before its completed.

time = distance divided by speed
That's what the teacher told us in school.

Isn't that right my friend who's lives in a box?

The new schemes will have lengths: 28+28+17+62 km for a total of 135. (Not the same as 90 miles - that was the length of the old road - the new one takes a different route)

If you drove at motorway speed limit 120 for the total, it would take 1 hr 8 minutes. Of course in reality you can't sustain that without interruption, so the rule of thumb is to divide the distance by 100 to get the number of hours so that's 1.35 = 1hr 20 mins.

N6 Galway-Ballinasloe is due to start next year so the only section not guaranteed to be finished within 3 years is Athlone-Ballinasloe so you can assume it will come in by the end of the decade.

It's programmed to open late next year but is expected to open in a matter of weeks.

Well the ministers (both will claim it) have to be able to say they delivered for Tullamore.
