I have an xp pro cd which i installed on my old pc along with its own cd key.
I have a new pc now that a friend built and he put an install of xp pro on it but didnt put in a cd key as didnt have 1, it needs a cd key now so, but it wont accept my old key.

If i install my old version/cd will it then accept my cd key again?

Your own copy of Windows XP Pro probably came bundled with the computer so you can only use it with one machine, I think. Does it say OEM on the disc?

It won't accept your old key because the one your friend installed is a different version - OEM vs Retail vs corporate or whatever. have you tried reinstalling windows from the CD you used with your old PC? Its worth a shot even if it is an OEM one, normally when you go to activate it again after drastic hardware changes, it will require you to ring Microsoft to get an activation code. They'll give it out without asking questions.

Yes, but you need to remove it from your old PC first.

Closing this thread. Nuttzy, that kind of post in here will get you a banning.
