The Garda Press Office (GPO) has sent out 2 press releases specifically refuting Herald articles. One of Rachel O'Reilly and one about the Ryder Cup.

Their relationship seems a little frosty.

Wasn't there agro before between the GPO and other papers? I know The Village did a recent piece about unanswered questions from the GPO.

Maybe the Herald (which has gone downhill dramatically in recent times) hasnt been towing the Garda line. How dare you question what the Gardai say as fact.

Or maybe the Herald have been making stuff up?

The Herald or their sister the Sunday Indo wouldnt make stories up. Although the daily Irish Indo doesnt have to make up Garda stories as their security reporter Tom Brady is the unofficial Garda Press Office or maybe he just gets it so right every time.

I really, really hope that was irony! The Herald have had a reputation for "exaggeration" of what the Garda Press gives them for years. I can think of a number of case where they have claimed extra firearms or more serious injuries. But then you're going to get that in any press outfit that is so eager to get stuff out there that they listen to rumour and report it as fact! Their coverage of the Rachel O'Reilly case has been absolutely terrible. The word ethics obviously means something else in there!
