In order to get any income taxes that were paid while you are in the States you need to have filled out a W4 form. You would then receive a W2 from the employer which would be used to file a 1040 form. But as you were only here for 2 weeks that would probably not apply to you. A bit confusing I know :D

Gee I'm not sure about that. I'm only experienced in payroll laws. Maybe you could check out the IRS website? www.irs.gov There may be something that would help you.

Any tax you paid on hotel or goods would be state sales tax and not a federal tax. I very much doubt there are any channels for claiming back state taxes.

Sales taxes cannot be recovered by tourists and other such visitors. It's not like how the yanks get their form stamped by the customs in Dublin airport when they are leaving with their purchases of Waterford crystal.

Some department stores in NY give you back the sales tax, Bloomingdales I think does. So maybe other do. YOu go to customer service with your passport and ticket and your purchases on the day you bought them, and they refund you some of the tax.

I take this is a gimmick and strictly unofficial?
