Grad Ball - Ticketmaster selling tickets

In the weekly Ticketmaster email newsletter I saw that they are selling tickets for the DIT Grad Balls. Is this normal for DIT?
I always thought that Ticketmaster charges both the venue/organisers (pays less than displayed price for the tickets) and the customer (service charges). If so, it would seem that the Students Union lose some revenue and students pay extra.
Are there that many tickets involved that doing it through the college is not feasible.

I'm a DCU grad from 1992, when it was quite small.
