Get a letter from work and you'll have your test in a month max.

Not really. You will need a NI license and to get that you will need an address. They have tightened things up and *may* now ask you to prove you live there by providing bills etc.

If you wanted to do it that bad I would suggest you do it in the UK rather than NI. That way you could do the DAS test and have a full unrestricted license immediately. I think the waiting for a DAS test is about 2 weeks.

Which test centre in Dublin (presumably from your location) have you applied? I applied for the bike test in Finglas and got a test within a couple of months. Failed it first time but it came up again in another month or so. I didn't use any work letters etc.

I was thinking of doing this myself. Does anyone know if it's easy to get the licence, not do the test? I can get a UK address but can't prove residence

They will not always ask for proof of residence. It may be worth a try. It might be possible to pull the old "I just moved here and don't have any proof, here is a letter from my auntie that I am living with."

I would suggest you give it a go, you have nothing to lose. You will have to lie on the application form and again at the test centre but I think it is worth it for the full license.
