Hope that I am in the right forum here. If not feel free to move this post to the correct one.
Problem is I want to try to contact a mate who moved to california about 10 years ago. After he left, I got his e-mail address but soon lost it. As far as I am aware he is still in the USA.
Does any one out there know of any search program that would help in narrowing down where to search. I have tried to google him but no luck.

Some people over rely on what a computer can do for them.
What you need is some old fashioned detective work. You need to hire a private eye (the internet might be able to help with that bit)
    or maybe Pinkerton's Men

Or may be I could find a cheap hitman to hop the crap out of you.

    Thanks for your assistance:mad:

There are sites out there that let you track down people by name. There are loads of Americans on these sites. Someone else should have some links. Other than that your out of luck if google didn't reveal anything AFAIK.

Yahoo People Search or similar might work, worth a try.

You could try and piece together as much information about him as you can.
Where he was born, what schools he went to etc

You need to get creative, a college or school friend might have logged on to one of the school sites and left some details at some time or another.

Try myspace or bebo he could have a website

Can you remember what were his interests?

Any idea where in California he moved too? if you can narrow it down do a search on some of the USA Telephone directorys. He should have a postel address/ Telephone number at this stage.

Contact Irish Embassey in US they might have some information they can give out.

POst an ad in the Irish Emigrant maybe some who reads it will know him, post an ad in a Cali newspaper. Post in a Cali forum etc

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

You probably tried already, but how about entering his name in quotes in google, like "joe bloggs" perhaps followed by a searchword relevant to him (university, company he used to work for, etc.)

He might have a website www.joebloggs.com or www.bloggs.com

i was in the same boad 6 months ago

yahoo actually offer a phone book seacrh. just banged in a friends details and they came up straight away.

    or try peopleseacrh.lycos.com

    or http://www.ussearch.com/consumer/index.jsp

this one you get basic info and have to pay for more but it might lead you in teh right direction. I tried with a friend and found her after 15 years. after about 10 minutes i managed to get a town and googled that info and found a photography site she was registered to and an email address from that. banged off a mail and we've been talking ever since.

took about half an hour at most to get the email address.

    good luck
