Live PL Cash Games - Limp Raising vs Open Raising

Playing a 1/2 cash game in the SE last night, I'd been very active preflop and had raised alot of pots. There were two other players at the table, both pretty donkish who were raising alot to 7 or 10 preflop. I was UTG+1 and open-limped with KK, expecting there to be a raise from one of the 2 in LP. Number 1 duly obliged and raised to 7. There were a few callers and I raised the max.

Now after the hand someone said I'd played it very badly. I'm still unsure on the merits of the limp raise. Most of the time it telegraphs the strength of your hand (ie 90% of the time someone does it, its AA/KK). However, in a full ring game where I'm quite active preflop, I don't want to raise to 7 and play a 6 or 7 way pot out of position.

    What are peoples thoughts?

I do this on occasions also, its difficult to get heads up in Pot Limit cash game pre-flop, so this does produce the end to the means so to speak. It does signal the strength of your hand but there's nearly always some donkey to call or some sneeky guy looking to trap if he hits the flop with his lower pair or suied connectors, etc.

All in all i dont think its a bad play when mixed around a little. Of course you can always use this procedure to project this holding when holding something completely different.

As long as there are muppets who will call your limp/reraise with 67s or JTo or KQo or whatever ... then I like limp/reraise.

Who gives a fvck if you telegraph the strength of your hand if you get enough in preflop that they cant profitably call (as long as they continue to call with these worse hands).

In my experience - limp/reraise rules in the live games in this country.

If they start folding, then do it with 67s :-)

IMO, when UTG or UTG + 1 in a hand this is the optimum way to play the premium three hands. A raise to €7/10 achieves feck all in Dublin cash games and you will invariably take a flop against 4-7 players where you are out of position and there is a little pot a brewing in the middle.

So what, you're saying that you have an absolute monster. The fish in the emporium will still call with weak Aces, K - Q etc and pay you off. They always pay me off...

I thought you only had 2 premium hands....and you're willing to lay one of them down pre-flop to a re-re-raise?!

Halfbaked, correct me if I'm wrong here!

Pretty close! It's three according to Lloyd, but really two and he would lay down one to a re-re-raise. Lloyd correct me if I'm wrong;)

Yeah one is red aces and the other is black aces. Red is unlucky for Lloyd so he'll lay them down to a re-re-raise.

The third mystery hand is pocket kings, but generally Lloyd will fold that hand for a single raise.
