Scheduled recording of satellite programs query

Hi,
I'm consindering getting a hard driver recoder in order to schedule recodings of programs from an astra fta satellite dish. I'm thinking of one of these

The epg on my satellite box is very poor and sometimes non existant. How do I go about scheduling recodings as all the satellite channels come via scart and don't have individual channels assigned on the tv? Wondering if anyone has suggestions or is currently doing this and can give some tips.

You could have a search on the net for "epg" and your fta decoder/dvd recorder...

I've got a topfield which doesn't have an ethernet port (:eek: - didn't realise how handy that would be when I bought it, probably would have got a dreambox otherwise!) But it does have a USB port. I can get an Asus wireless-G router which some nice internet person has re-written the firmware for... allowing me to download xml epg data from the radio times website. (see http://www.toppy.org.uk/documents/index.php?catid=2 and search for WL500g if your receiver is a toppy pvr)

A lot of hassle I know... but Just making the point there ?may? be other options available to you if you look... (even for getting the FTA box to switch channels...)

But then maybe the BEST thing to do would be simply ditch the old FTA box and go buy urself a twin tuner PVR... toppy, dreambox, etc. there's lots to choose from.
